What is Spikevax PF?
COVID-19, a severe disease caused by a coronavirus known as SARS-cov-2 (Severe Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), is a virus that causes serious respiratory problems. COVID-19 can be spread by air.
COVID-19 may affect your lungs and other organs. The symptoms can be mild or severe and include fevers, chills, coughs, sore throats, fatigue, body aches, headaches, loss of smell or taste, runny noses or stuffy nasal passages, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
COVID-19 is a virus that causes severe illness and death. The COVID-19 vaccination helps to prevent this. The US Food and Drug Administration has approved Moderna for the active immunization of COVID-19 among people aged 18 and older. COVID-19 is not a coronavirus. It cannot cause COVID-19. This vaccine does not treat COVID-19 infections that are active. COVID-19, like any other vaccine, may not protect everyone.
Side effects of Spikevax PF
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives or rash, dizziness, weakness, rapid heartbeats, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, throat, or mouth. You may be watched by your vaccination provider for a few minutes after the shot to ensure you do not have an allergic response. If you experience a reaction soon after receiving the vaccine, you will be treated immediately.
If the first dose caused an allergic response, you should not get this vaccine again. Your doctor or vaccination provider can determine if another COVID-19 shot is safe for you. All possible side effects may not be known. Infecting yourself with COVID-19 can be more harmful to your health than getting this vaccine.
Vaccines can cause inflammation of the heart muscle and the lining surrounding the heart. However, this is a rare side effect. Seek medical attention right away if you have:
- Chest pain;
- Shortness of breath
- Fast or pounding pulses, or fluttering of the chest.
Spikevax PF can cause the following side effects:
- Fever, chills;
- Redness, hardness, or swelling at the site of the injection;
- Underarm swelling or tenderness
- Nausea, vomiting;
- Feeling tired
- Headache, and pain in the joints.
There may be other side effects. For medical advice regarding side effects, reach out to your physician. Report the side effects of vaccines to the US Department of Health and Human Services by calling 1-800-822-7967.
If you experience any problems after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination, you can also contact the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention via a smartphone app called V-Safe: www.cdc.gov/vsafe.

Before you take this drug
This vaccine should not be given if you have ever experienced a severe reaction to the Moderna COVID-19 vaccination.
If you have COVID-19 and are awaiting testing results or exposed to someone who has COVID-19, you may not be eligible to receive the vaccine until your symptoms are gone and/or you've completed your quarantine period. If you are infected but have no symptoms, you will still be contagious.
If you have any questions about the COVID-19 treatment you received, ask your doctor.
If you:

How to take Spikevax PF?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do not recommend the administration of monovalent COVID-19 vaccinations. Please read all the vaccine information provided. Moderna COVID-19 is administered as a shot (injection) into the muscle in two doses, separated by 1 month.
You will be advised by your doctor or vaccine provider if you require an additional dose. A reminder card will be sent to you, indicating the date and type of each injection. This card should be taken with you every time you get a COVID-19 vaccination.
Use infection control measures when in public and around people who are not vaccinated. This includes hand-washing with soap, wearing protective face covers, disinfecting surfaces that you touch frequently, and not sharing your personal items. You will not test positive for coronavirus after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination. Once your body has developed immunity to COVID-19, you may test positive for an antibody test.
The duration of protection from COVID-19 infection by this vaccine is unknown. Also, it is unknown how long immunity lasts in someone who has recovered from COVID-19 after being infected. COVID-19 is still under study, and its full risks are unknown. Current federal public health recommendations can be found online at this location.
What happens if I miss the dose?
If you missed your second dose, contact your vaccination provider or the health department.
What happens if I overdose?
