What is Ampyra?
Ampyra is an inhibitor of potassium channels.Ampyra is a prescribed medicine designed to help improve walking for adult patients with MS.It isn't known whether Ampyra is effective or safe for youngsters younger than 18 years old.
Warnings
Ampyra may trigger a seizure (convulsion), regardless of whether you've never experienced one before. A high dose of dalfampridine could increase your chance of having a seizure. Kidney problems may also increase the risk. The kidney function of your patient may require testing prior to starting this drug.Take a break from Ampyra and consult your doctor immediately if you are experiencing a seizure, pain, or burning sensation when you urinate, balance problems, tingling or numbness, or a relapse of symptoms of MS.Doses of dalfampridine that are high could increase the risk of having seizures. Don't take more than two tablets within a 24-hour period. Don't take tablets that have been fractured or crushed. Broken tablets can release too much of the drug in one go.
Before you take this drug
Do not take Ampyra if you have an allergy to dalfampridine and 4-aminopyridine or if you suffer from:
- Moderate to extreme kidney diseases
- If you've ever had a seizure.
Ampyra may trigger seizures even if there were no seizures prior to it. Your risk may be increased if you suffer from kidney issues or are over 50 years old.
To ensure that Ampyra is suitable for you, ask your doctor if you previously had:

How to take Ampyra?
Use Ampyra exactly as directed by your physician. Follow all instructions on the prescription label and study all medication guides or instructions sheets.Doing too much dalfampridine could increase the risk of having seizures. Space your doses 12 hours apart. Don't take more than two tablets in a span of 24 hours.You can use ampyra in combination with food or not.Take the tablet in its entirety and don't crush, chew, or even break it. Usual Adult Dose for Multiple Sclerosis:
Maximum dosage: 10 mg per day orally over 12 hours

This medication can be taken either with or without food.
Tablets should be consumed in whole form and should not be divided into pieces, chewed on, or dissolving.
