What is Ramelteon?

Ramelteon, a sedative also known as a "hypnotic", is a hypnotic. It affects certain substances that regulate your sleep-wake cycle.Ramelteon can be used to treat insomnia, which is a problem with falling asleep.Ramelteon can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Ramelteon

Ramelteon can cause an allergic reaction. Seek emergency medical attention if you experience any of the following: hives, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, or swelling of the face, lips, or throat.People who use Ramelteon may have performed activities while not fully awake and then had no memory about them. This could include driving, walking, eating, having sexual relations, or even making phone calls. Call your doctor immediately if this happens.

Ramelteon may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Hallucinations; worsening depressive symptoms; thoughts of harming yourself
  • A missed menstrual period;
  • Nipple discharge;
  • Loss of interest in sexual activity

Ramelteon can cause the following side effects:

  • Tiredness;
  • Dizziness;
  • Nausea;
  • Sleep problems can worsen.

If you also take Fluvoxamine or have had an allergic reaction to Ramelteon, you should avoid using it.Ramelteon can cause severe allergic reactions. If this happens, you should call your doctor immediately.

Before you take this drug

Ramelteon can make you sleepy. Ramelteon should not be taken during normal waking hours unless you can dedicate at least seven to eight hours to sleep.

Ramelteon should not be used if you have an allergy to it or:

  • You have a severe liver condition.
  • You should also take fluvoxamine.

Tell your doctor if any of the following applies to you:

  • Liver disease
  • Breathing problems
  • Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing while sleeping.
  • Depression, mental illness, or suicidal ideas

Inform your doctor immediately if you are pregnant or nursing.Do not breastfeed for 25 hours following the use of ramelton. Throw away any milk collected if you are using a breast pump. Do not give it to your child.Ramelteon can affect levels of male and female hormones ( testosterone or prolactin). It can affect the menstrual cycle in women, male sexual desire, or fertility in both men and women.Ramelteon should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.

How to take Ramelteon?

Read all instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all directions. Follow the directions on the label.Take Ramelteon at least 30 minutes before you normally go to bed.Do not take multiple doses at the same time.Ramelteon shouldn't be taken after or with a meal high in fat. It will be harder for the body to absorb this medication.If your symptoms persist after using Ramelteon for 7–10 days, call your doctor.Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature. When not in use, keep the bottle tightly shut.

Usual Adult Dose for Insomnia:

Take 8 mg before bedtime.
Maximum Dose: 8 mg per day
Comments: Do not take this drug with or right after eating a meal high in fat.
Use: treatment for insomnia that is characterized by difficulty falling asleep.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You are unlikely to miss a dosage of ramelteon, as it is only taken at bedtime. Do not take this medication before sleeping for 7 to 8 hours.Do not take more than one dose at a time.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect poisoning. Additionally, seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

What should be avoided?

Avoid drinking alcohol when taking Ramelteon.Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how the medicine will affect you. You may be unable to react properly.

Interaction with other drug

Before taking an opioid, sleeping pill, muscle relaxant, medicine for anxiety, or seizures, consult your doctor.Taken together, some medications may not be safe. Some drugs may affect the blood levels of drugs that you are taking, causing side effects or making them less effective. Ramelteon may be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal remedies. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
