What is Latanoprost ophthalmic?

Latanoprost (for the eyes) is used to treat certain types of glaucoma and other causes of high pressure within the eye.Latanoprost ophthalmic can be used in other ways not mentioned on the label.

Side effects of Latanoprost ophthalmic

If you experience symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately!

Latanoprost can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Eye swelling, redness, and discomfort (which may be symptoms of infection)
  • Itchy, red, or swollen eyelids
  • Your eyes may be more sensitive than usual to light.
  • Vision changes
  • Latanoprost can cause severe irritation, burning, or stinging.

Latanoprost eye drops may cause the following side effects:

  • Watery eyes
  • Itchy eyes
  • Eyelids that puff up
  • The eyes may feel stinging or burning.
  • Blurred vision
  • Do You Feel Something In Your Eyes? If this sounds familiar then there may be an obstruction blocking one or both eyes from seeing properly.
  • Your eyes may be more sensitive than usual to light.
  • Darkened eye colour;
  • Eyelash thickening.

Warnings

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all the directions. Inform your doctor of any other medications you are taking or if you have allergies or other medical conditions.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to latanoprost or benzalkonium chloride, then do not use the latanoprost eye drops

Notify your doctor of any of the following conditions:

  • You may experience swelling or infection of your eye.
  • Herpes infection in the eyes
  • Retinal detachment;
  • Eye surgery or an injury to the lens of your eyes

Latanoprost ophthalmic should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.Latanoprost may cause gradual changes in your eye colour, eyelids, or lashes. This is usually a brown pigment increase. You may notice an increase in the length or thickness of your eyelashes. You may not notice these changes for several months or even years. Even after treatment, colour changes can be permanent. They may only affect the eye that was treated. It could cause a cosmetic change in the eye or eyelash colours from one eye to the next.Inform your physician immediately if you become pregnant or nursing.

How to take Latanoprost ophthalmic?

Read all instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all instructions on the label. Follow the directions on the label.This medicine should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. You can usually use 1 drop in the affected eye each evening. Do not forget to follow your doctor's instructions.Use only when wearing soft lenses. This medicine contains a preservative that could permanently stain lenses. Wait 15 minutes or more before inserting contact lenses.Before using eye medications, wash your hands.

How to apply eye drops

  • To create a pocket, tilt your head slightly back and pull your lower eyelid down. The tip of the dropper should be pointing down. Squeeze out a few drops by looking up and away.
  • Close your eyes without blinking, squinting, or moving your head. Press your finger gently on the inside corner for 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining down into your tear duct.
  • Wait for at least five minutes before using another eye drop.

Avoid touching the tip of the dropper or placing it directly on your eye. A contaminated dropper may cause serious vision problems and infection of your eye.If you are planning to have surgery on your eyes or have an eye injury, infection, or other problem, you should tell your doctor immediately.Keep a bottle of unopened latanoprost in the refrigerator. Do not freeze.Store the eye drops at a temperature that is comfortable for you, away from heat, moisture, and light. When not in use, keep the bottle tightly shut. After 6 weeks, throw away the medicine if you haven't used it.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Intraocular Hypertension:

Once a day, in the evening, one eye drop should be placed in the eye(s).
Comments:
If a dose is missed, the treatment should proceed as usual with the next dosage.
The dose should not be more than one drop per eye daily, as a higher frequency of administration could reduce the effect on intraocular pressure.
The maximum effect is reached 12 hours after administration.
This drug can be used in conjunction with other topical eye drops to reduce intraocular tension.
If more than one topical eye drug is used, they should be given at least five minutes apart.
Use:
Reduced intraocular pressure in patients with glaucoma open-angle or ocular hypertension

Adult dose for glaucoma:

What happens if I miss the dose?

Do not take the missed dose. Use your next dose as usual. Do not take two doses at the same time.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdoses of latanoprost are not dangerous. Should anyone unwittingly take medication by mistake, seek immediate medical assistance immediately and call Poison Help immediately on 1-800-222-1222 for support.

What should be avoided?

Use latanoprost eye drops in moderation. Too much can make them less effective at lowering pressure.You should only use eye drops prescribed by your doctor.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs that you take are unlikely to affect the medicine used on your eyes. Many drugs interact. Inform your physician of all medications taken, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
