What is Caldolor?

Caldolor is a nonsteroidal analgesic drug (NSAID). Ibuprofen reduces hormones that cause inflammation and pain. Caldolor is an injection used to treat pain and reduce fever.

Caldolor can also be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide. Neoprofen is another brand of ibuprofen that's used to treat premature babies for a condition known as patent ductus artery. This condition causes abnormal blood vessel openings, which normally close shortly after birth.

Warnings

Caldolor may increase your risk of a fatal stroke or heart attack, even if there are no risk factors. This medicine should not be taken before or after a heart bypass (also known as a CABG or coronary artery bypass).Ibuprofen may cause stomach or intestinal bleeding which could prove fatal. Caldolor can cause these conditions without warning, especially for older adults.

Before you take this drug

Caldolor may increase your risk of a fatal heart attack or stroke, even if there are no risk factors. This medication should not be taken prior to or following heart bypass (coronary arterial bypass graft, or CABG).Ibuprofen may cause deadly stomach or intestinal bleeding - you may not even realize this when taking this medication if you're an older individual. Caldolor should not be used if you're allergic to ibuprofen or have had an aspirin attack, severe allergic reaction, or severe asthma attack after taking nsaids or aspirin.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Caldolor will be safe for you:

  • Heart disease, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, or diabetes;
  • A heart attack, stroke, or blood clot
  • Stomach ulcers or bleeding
  • Asthma;
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Fluid retention;
  • A connective tissue disorder such as Marfan's syndrome or Sjogren’s syndrome.

Do not take Caldolor during pregnancy unless you have been told to by your doctor. An NSAID can cause kidney or heart problems for the unborn child and complications in pregnancy. Breastfeeding mothers should avoid taking this medicine.

How to take Caldolor?

Infusions of Caldolor are given into the vein. This injection will be given by a healthcare provider. Caldolor is a drug that should be taken with plenty of fluids.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You are unlikely to miss a dosage because you will be receiving your injections in a clinic setting.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdoses are unlikely because this medication is administered by a health professional in a medical environment.

What should be avoided?

Aspirin should not be taken while receiving Caldolor. They may contain ingredients similar to ibuprofen (such as aspirin, a href="https://www.drugs.com/mtm/ketoprofen.html">ketoprofen/a>, or a href="https://www.drugs.com/naproxen.html">naproxen/a>). These medicines may contain similar ingredients to ibuprofen, such as aspirin or ketoprofen.

Side effects of Caldolor

If you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction (fever or sore throat with blistering or peeling skin, hives, or difficulty breathing) or symptoms of an allergic response to Caldolor (hives or difficulty breathing), seek emergency medical attention.

If you experience a severe drug reaction, stop using Caldolor immediately and consult a doctor. Symptoms can include a skin rash, fever, or swollen lymph glands. Other symptoms may include muscle pain, weakness, unusual bruises, or yellowing. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

If you:

  • Changes in your vision
  • Feeling short of breath, swelling, and rapid weight gain
  • Headache in the neck or ears
  • Little or no urination
  • High level of potassium; nausea; weakness; chest pains; irregular heartbeats; and loss of mobility.
  • Liver problem: nausea, dark urine (upper right), stomach pain, jaundice (yellowing skin or eyes);
  • Anaemia (low red blood cells), pale skin, unusual fatigue, feeling lightheaded or hort of breath,, cold hands or feet;
  • Signs of stomach bleeding include bloody or black stools, bloody vomit, or bloody phlegm.

If you have given your baby Neoprofen, tell your doctor immediately if:

  • Signs of infection include fever, chills, and fussiness.
  • Unusual bleeding;
  • The IV needle can cause bruising, swelling, or redness.

Caldolor can cause a number of side effects.

  • Nausea, vomiting, gas;
  • Headache
  • Dizziness.

Interaction with other drug

Tell your doctor about your other medications, including:

  • Lithium;
  • Methotrexate;
  • A blood thinner (Warfarin Coumadin Jantoven);
  • Heart or blood pressure medications, including diuretics or "water pills";
  • Steroid medicine (such as prednisone).
