What is Headache Relief PM?

Acetaminophen relieves pain and lowers the fever. Diphenhydramine acts as an antihistamine.Headache relief PM is an oral combination medication used to treat insomnia that occurs occasionally with minor aches or pains. Headache Relief PM should not be used to treat insomnia with pain or frequent sleep disorders.The Headache Relief PM can also be used for minor pains and aches such as headaches, back pain or joint pain, muscle pain or tooth pain, or menstrual pain.The Headache Relief PM can also be used for runny or itchy noses, throats, and noses, as well as pains and fevers caused by the cold or flu.This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Headache Relief PM.

Side effects of Headache Relief PM

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongueAcetaminophen can cause severe reactions in some people, even when they have never had a reaction before. Call your doctor immediately if the skin becomes red or you develop a rash. If blisters form and you peel them off, stop taking this medication.

This medicine can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe sleepiness
  • Urination that is painful or difficult
  • Liver problems: loss of appetite, pain in the upper right corner of your stomach, fatigue, itchiness, dark urine, brown stools, and clay-colored stools

Headache Relief PM can cause the following side effects:

  • Drowsiness;
  • Constipation;
  • Reduced urination
  • Dry eyes and blurred vision
  • Dry throat, mouth, or nose.

Warnings

Follow the instructions on Headache Relief PM. Overdosing on acetaminophen may damage the liver or even cause death. A diphenhydramine overdose can cause serious heart issues, seizures, death, and coma.Never use this medication to put a young child to sleep.Before using any other medication that contains acetaminophen or diphenhydramine, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Overdosing on either medication can be fatal.When taking acetaminophen, drinking alcohol can increase the risk of developing liver damage.If you notice skin redness, a rash, or blistering that causes peeling and blistering, stop taking the medicine immediately and contact your doctor.

Before you take this drug

If you've ever suffered from liver diseases or drink more than three alcoholic drinks per day, you should consult a physician before you take acetaminophen.

If you've ever:

  • Liver disease
  • Urination or prostate problems
  • Asthma; chronic obstructive lung disease; emphysema; or any other breathing disorder.
  • Glaucoma;
  • A condition that you are taking Warfarin for (coumadin or Jantoven)

Before using this medication, consult your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing. Diphenhydramine can slow down breast milk production.

How to take Headache Relief PM?

Headache Relief PM should only be used as directed by the manufacturer or your physician. Use Headache Relief PM only as needed until symptoms are gone.Headache Relief PM should not be taken in excess of the recommended dose. Overdosing on acetaminophen may damage the liver or even cause death. A diphenhydramine overdose can cause serious heart issues, seizures, death, and coma.The Headache Relief PM should not be used by anyone under the age of 12. Never use this medicine to put a young child to sleep.Use this medication for no more than two weeks to treat insomnia or seven days to treat colds or allergy symptoms.If you have not seen improvement in your symptoms after three days or if the pain persists after ten days (or five days for those aged 12–17), call your doctor. Call your doctor as soon as your symptoms worsen or you notice any swelling or redness.Tell your doctor if this medication has been taken within the last few days and if you are going to need medical testing or surgery.At room temperature, avoid direct heat and moisture exposure.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You may not have a regular dosing regimen since Headache Relief PM can be used as needed. If it is almost time to take your next dose, skip any missed doses. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Overdoses can cause death or liver damage.The symptoms of an overdose may include: loss of appetite; nausea; confusion; ringing ears and upper stomach pains; dark urine or no urination. Other signs of an overdose are: very dry skin, eyes or mouth, yellowing, rapid heartbeats, or tremors.

What should be avoided?

Headache Relief PM can affect your reaction to driving and other hazardous activities. You may be unable to react properly.Before using any other medication that contains acetaminophen or diphenhydramine, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Included are medicines used to treat pain, swelling, flu symptoms, or cold or flu-like symptoms. An overdose of acetaminophen and diphenhydramine may be fatal.When taking acetaminophen, drinking alcohol can increase the risk of developing liver damage.

Interaction with other drug

Before using Headache Relief PM with other medications, ask your doctor or pharmacist. This is especially important if you are taking drugs that cause drowsiness, such as sleep medication, opioid medications, muscle relaxers, medicines for anxiety, or seizures. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you have started or stopped using. Included are prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medicines.
