Vimovo

What is Vimovo?

Vimovo is a combination of naproxen and esomeprazole. Naproxen is an NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug). It reduces substances that are responsible for inflammation, pain, and fever in the body.Esomeprazole, also known as a proton-pump inhibitor, is a proton-pump inhibitor. Vimovo contains it to reduce the amount of stomach acid.

Vimovo treats symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid, idiopathic, and juvenile arthritis. This medicine contains esomeprazole, which helps to reduce the risk of stomach cancer in patients who are at risk while taking an NSAID.

Warnings

Even if you have no risk factors, Naproxen may increase your risk of a fatal stroke or heart attack. Vimovo should not be used before or after heart bypass (coronary arterial bypass graft, or CABG).Naproxen can also cause fatal stomach or intestinal bleeding. This condition can happen without warning, especially for older adults.

Naproxen may cause kidney problems. If you notice that you are urinating more or less than normal or have blood in the urine, tell your doctor.Diarrhea could be an indication of a new illness. If you have watery diarrhea or blood in your stool, call your doctor.

Esomeprazole can cause new symptoms or worsen lupus. If you experience joint pain and have a rash that gets worse in the sun on your arms or cheeks, tell your doctor.Vimovo can increase your risk of breaking a bone if you take it long-term or more than twice per day.

Before you take this drug

Naproxen can also cause fatal stomach or intestinal bleeding. Vimovo can cause these conditions without warning, especially for older adults.Vimovo should not be used if you have an allergy to esomeprazole or naproxen (Nexium, Alve, or Naprosyn).

  • You are allergic to esomeprazole and other medicines such as Nexium, Prevacid, Protonix Dexilant, etc.
  • You have recently had heart bypass surgery, or you are about to undergo heart bypass surgery.
  • If you've ever had severe allergic reactions, breathing problems, or kidney problems after taking this medication in the past,
  • You have experienced an asthma episode or severe allergic reactions after taking aspirin.
  • You also take HIV medicines that contain rilpivirine.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Vimovo will be safe for you:

  • Heart disease High blood pressure
  • Asthma;
  • Crohn’s disease; ulcerative colitis; inflammatory bowel disease
  • After taking an NSAID, stomach or intestinal bleeding may occur.
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Low levels of magnesium in the blood
  • If you smoke or consume alcohol,

Discuss with your doctor how to maintain healthy bones.Do not take Vimovo if you are pregnant unless you have been told to by your doctor. Nsaids can cause kidney or heart problems for the unborn child and other complications during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding may not be possible while taking this medication. You should ask your doctor if there are any risks.Vimovo cannot be used by anyone under 12 years of age or who weighs less than 38 kilograms.

How to take Vimovo?

Vimovo should be taken at least 30 minutes prior to a meal, two times per day. Read all the instructions on the prescription label. Follow the directions on the label.Do not chew, crush, or break the tablet.

Take the medication at least 30 minutes prior to eating. Use the lowest effective dose to treat your condition.Vimovo may affect certain medical tests. Inform any doctor that you see about your use of this medication.Store away from moisture, heat, and light at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and severe weakness.

What should be avoided?

Vimovo may cause diarrhea. This could be an indication of a new illness. Call your doctor if you experience diarrhea that is bloody or watery before taking anti-diarrhoea medication.

Smoking and drinking alcohol are both bad for you. You may be at greater risk of bleeding in your stomach if you smoke and drink alcohol.Vimovo is a combination of esomeprazole, naproxen, and regular naproxen. Do not substitute this medication with over-the-counter products.

They may contain ingredients similar to naproxen (such as aspirin, a href="https://www.drugs.com/ibuprofen.html">ibuprofen/a>, or a href="https://www.drugs.com/mtm/ketoprofen.html">ketoprofen/a>). These medicines may contain similar ingredients to naproxen, such as aspirin or ibuprofen.

Side effects of Vimovo

If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction to Vimovo, such as hives or severe skin reactions like a fever, burning eyes, skin pain or blisters, or a red or purple rash, seek emergency medical attention.

If you experience any of these symptoms of a stroke or heart attack: sudden weakness or numbness on one side; slurred or mumbled speech; a feeling of shortness of breath; or chest pain that spreads to the jaw or shoulder,

If you experience:

  • Diarrhea that is bloody or watery; severe stomach pain
  • Bloody or tarry stool, vomiting blood, or vomit that looks like coffee grounds
  • Heart problem: rapid weight gain and a feeling of shortness of breath.
  • Kidney problems: fever, rash, and nausea; loss of appetite; joint pains; less urination than usual; bloody urine; weight gain.
  • Liver problem: nausea, dark urine (upper right), stomach pain, jaundice (yellowing skin or eyes);
  • Low magnesium dizziness; feeling jittery or jittery with muscle cramps or spasms of the hands or feet; feeling choking or coughing.
  • Anemia (low red blood cells), pale skin, unusual fatigue, feeling lightheaded or hort of breath,, cold hands or feet;
  • New or worsening lupus symptoms: joint pain and a skin reaction on your arms or cheeks that gets worse in the sun.

Vimovo can cause stomach growths known as fundic gland polyps. Speak to your doctor about the risk.Vimovo can cause a B-12 deficiency if you continue to use it for more than two years. If you experience this condition, talk to your doctor to learn how to treat it.

Vimovo may cause side effects such as:

Interaction with other drug

Before using Vimovo, ask your doctor if you are taking an antidepressant. Certain antidepressants may cause you to bruise or bleed easily.

Inform your doctor of all the medications you are taking. Many drugs interact with naproxen and esomeprazole, including:

  • Clopidogrel;
  • Digoxin;
  • Methotrexate;
  • Rifampin;
  • John's Wort;
  • A blood thinner, such as warfarin (Jantoven, Coumadin), apixaban, or rivaroxaban;
  • A diuretic, or "water pill".
  • Heart or blood pressure medications;
  • Steroid medicine such as prednisone or methylprednisolone.

This list isn't complete. Many other drugs can interact with esomeprazole or naproxen. These include prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. This list does not include all drug interactions.
