Simponi aria

Drug class: tnf-alpha inhibitors

Generic name: golimumab.

What is Simponi aria?

Simponi aria relieves the symptoms of autoimmune disorders, such as:

  • Adults with rheumatoid arthritis (a disease in which the body attacks itself, causing swelling and pain) can take methotrexate along with other medications (otrexup rasuvo trexall).
  • Ankylosing spondylitis in adults (a condition where the body attacks joints in the spine, causing joint damage and pain)
  • Psoriatic arthritis in adults and children older than 2 years
  • Polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis (pjia) is a form of childhood arthritis affecting five or more joints in the first six months of the condition. It causes pain, swelling, and loss of functionality.

Simponi aria, also known as a tnf blocker (tumour-necrosis factor blocker), is a prescription medication. Simponi aria may be safe and effective for children under the age of 2 with psa or pjia, but not for those with other conditions.

Warnings

Simponi aria should not be used if abatacept or anakinra are also being taken. Simponi aria can affect your immune system. You could get more serious infections, including fatal ones. Contact your doctor if any of the following symptoms occur: fever, chills and aches, fatigue, cough, sores on the skin, diarrhoea, or burning in your urination.

Simponi aria can cause serious and even fatal infections, especially if your immune system is already weakened by other medications. Simponi aria may cause tuberculosis, hepatitis-b, or other conditions to return or worsen. These conditions should be checked before using simponi aria.

Simponi aria users have been diagnosed with a rare, fast-growing form of lymphoma, which can affect the liver, spleen, and bone marrow. This cancer is fatal. It has mostly affected teenage boys and young males who use simponi aria.

Take this medication only if you have been prescribed it.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure simponi aria will be safe for you:

  • Is a chronic or active
  • A disorder of the nerves and muscles, such as multiple sclerosis;
  • Lymphoma or cancer?
  • Congestive heart failure;
  • Psoriasis;
  • Recently received or scheduled for a live vaccination

Tell your doctor about any recent travel or exposure to tuberculosis. You may have been exposed to certain infections while travelling.

Simponi aria can increase your risk of other cancers. You should ask your doctor if this is a risk. Golimumab is not known to harm unborn babies. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant.

Inform your doctor about the use of simponi aria while pregnant. This could have an impact on your baby’s vaccination schedule in the first six months.ask your doctor if you can safely breastfeed when using simponi aria.

How to take Simponi aria?

Please follow the directions on your prescription label. Before you begin taking this medication, you should be tested to see if you have had tuberculosis or hepatitis. During treatment, your doctor may monitor you for symptoms and signs.

Simponi aria can be infused into a vein. This type of injection is given by a healthcare provider once every four to eight weeks. Simponi aria may weaken your immune response. You will need to test your blood often. Do not freeze. Store in the original container. Keep away from the light.

Do not heat medicine using hot water, sunlight, or the microwave - allow it to come back down to room temperature before using it. Never warm up the medicine in hot water, sunlight, or the microwave.

Details on dosage

Adult dose of simponi aria:

Iv: 2 mg/kg for 30 minutes, at weeks 0, 4, and every 8 weeks thereafter.

Adult dose of simponi aria used for rheumatoid arthritis:

Iv: 2 mg/kg for 30 minutes, weeks 0 and 4; then every 8 weeks after that.
Use: to treat patients with moderately active to severely active rheumatoid arthritis

Adult dose of simponi aria:

Iv: 2 mg/kg for 30 minutes, at weeks 0, 4, and every 8 weeks thereafter.
Comments:
this drug can be used with or without methotrexate or any other nonbiologic disease-modifying antirheumatic (dmard) drugs.
Corticosteroids (nsaids), analgesics, and/or nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs can be taken during the course of treatment.
Patients must be tested for hepatitis b virus infection before beginning treatment.
Before starting treatment, evaluate patients for active tuberculosis.
The safety and effectiveness of switching from subcutaneous to iv formulations have not been proven.
Use: to treat patients with ankylosing spondylitis (as).

The usual paediatric dose of simponi aria to treat psoriatic arthritis is:

Iv: 80 mg/m2 in 30 minutes, at weeks 0, 4, and thereafter every 8 weeks
comments:
the dosage regimen is based on the body surface area.
Use: to treat active psoriatic arthritis patients aged 2 years and older.

The usual paediatric dose of simponi aria in juvenile idiopathic arthritis:

Iv: 80 mg/m2 in 30 minutes, at weeks 0, 4, and thereafter every 8 weeks
comments:
the dosage regimen is based on the body surface area.
Use: to treat active polyarticular juvenile arthritis (pjia) in patients aged 2 years and older.

What happens if i miss the dose?

What happens if i overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

You could get a serious infection if you receive a live vaccine. Live vaccines are measles, mumps, and rubella (mmr), rotavirus, typhoid, yellow fever, and varicella (chickenpox).

Side effects of Simponi aria

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue, seek emergency medical attention.

Signs of infection could include:

  • Feeling very tired; fever, chills, and sweating;
  • Cough, bloody mucus, and shortness of breath
  • Weight loss;
  • Painful skin sores or warmth
  • Diarrhoea, stomach pain,
  • Burning or increased urination.

Call your doctor immediately if you:

  • Skin growth or changes to the skin's appearance
  • Swelling in your lower legs;
  • Vision changes
  • You may feel tingling or numbness in your arms and legs.
  • Heart problem: rapid weight gain and a feeling of shortness of breath.
  • Low blood cell counts; fever, chills, and tiredness; mouth sores or skin sores easy bruising. Unusual bleeding. Pale skin. Cold hands and feet. Feeling light-headed.
  • Liver disorders: fatigue, nausea, itching, dark-coloured urine, and clay-coloured stool. Jaundice: yellowing of the skin, eyes, or lips.
  • New or worsening lupus symptoms: joint pain and a rash that gets worse in the sun on your arms or cheeks;
  • Signs of psoriasis: red or scaly skin patches, flaking, pus

Side effects of simponi aria may include:

  • Cold symptoms like a stuffy nose and sneezing, sore neck
  • Abnormal liver function tests
  • High blood pressure
  • Skin rash
  • Low blood cell count;
  • Pain, itching, or redness where the medicine has been injected.

Interaction with other drug

It is sometimes not safe to take certain medications at the same time. Some drugs may affect the blood levels of drugs that you are taking, causing side effects or making them less effective.

Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications, including:

  • Anakinra;
  • Abatacept, etanercept,
  • Adalimumab, certolizumab, infliximab, rituximab, or tocilizumab.
