What is Rolaids?
Magnesium and calcium are minerals found in nature that are essential to many body systems. Calcium is essential for bone maintenance and formation. Rolaids are a combination of antacids used to treat indigestion and heartburn. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Rolaids.
Side effects of Rolaids
If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives or swelling to face lips throat area
If you experience symptoms that indicate high levels of calcium or magnesium in your blood, stop using Rolaids immediately and contact your doctor.
- Nausea, vomiting, constipation;
- Increased thirst or urination
- Muscle weakness and bone pain
- Feeling tired, confused, or weak is a common feeling.
- Trouble breathing
- Feeling light-headed.
Rolaids can have the following side effects:
- diarrhea;
- Constipation is a common symptom.
- Uncomfortable stomach
There may be other side effects. Call your doctor immediately if any adverse side effects arise; alternatively, for reporting purposes call the FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088 and report incidents directly.

Before you take this drug
If you've ever experienced an allergic reaction after taking an antacid, then Rolaids is not for you. If you have kidney problems, ask your doctor or pharmacist whether it's safe to take the medicine. You may need a different dose during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Do not administer this medicine to an infant without consulting a doctor.
How to take Rolaids?
Take this medication before bedtime or between meals. Please read the label carefully. Use the medicine only as directed. Chew the chewable tablet before swallowing it. Before measuring an oral suspension dose, shake the oral suspension thoroughly. Use either the dosing syringe provided with it, a dose-measuring cup/spoon provided, or consult your pharmacist if no device exists for measuring doses. Rolaids should not be taken for more than 14 consecutive days without consulting a doctor. If your symptoms don't improve or worsen after two weeks of taking Rolaids, call your doctor. Store away from moisture or heat at room temperature. Don't allow liquid medicines to freeze.
What happens if I miss the dose?
Antacids can be taken as needed. You may not have a schedule. If you have a dosing schedule, take the missed dose immediately after you remember.If your next scheduled dose is approaching quickly, do not attempt to catch up by taking extra medicine as compensation for having missed one dose.
What happens if I overdose?
Reach out immediately if a poison emergency arises; call the Poison Help line on 1800222-1222, or seek medical treatment if symptomatically associated.
What should be avoided?
Take your antacid before taking any other medication. Certain antacids may make certain medications less effective by making it more difficult for the body to absorb them. Take other medications 2 hours before taking Rolaids or 2 hours afterwards.
Interaction with other drug
Rolaids can interact with many drugs. This list does not include all possible interactions. Tell your doctor if you are taking any new medications or if you will stop taking any of your current ones.
- Anti-biotic
- Heart or blood pressure medications;
- Hiv or aids medication;
- Treatment of osteoporosis and paget disease
