What is Dioximel fumarate?

Side effects of Diroximel fumarate

Call your doctor immediately if you:

  • Jaundice (yellowing skin or eyes) is a sign of liver disease.
  • Signs of infection: fever, chills and sweat, coughing, shortness of breath, headaches, stiff neck, increased sensitivity to light, nausea, and vomiting.
  • Herpes symptoms include flu-like symptoms and cold sores around the mouth.

Some of the common side effects that diroximel fumarate can cause include:

  • Indigestion, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;
  • Itching or skin rash
  • Diarrhea;
  • Flushing (a sudden feeling of warmth, redness, or tingling)

Warnings

If you are allergic to dimethyl fumarate or Tecfidera, you should avoid using diroximel fumarate.

Before you take this drug

This medicine should not be used if you:

  • You have experienced a severe reaction to dimethyl fumarate, diroximel fumarate, or Tecfidera.
  • You can also use dimethyl fumarate.

Communicate to your doctor any of the following concerns:

  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Infections;
  • Low white blood cell counts (wbc).

Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing. Diroximel fumarate should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.

How to take Diroximel fumarate?

You will be tested by your doctor to ensure that you are not suffering from any conditions that would make it unsafe for you to use diroximel fumarate. Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed. Do not open, crush, chew, or break the capsule. Avoid foods high in fat or calories if you are taking diroximel fumarate along with food. You should limit the number of calories in your meal or snack to 700 or less than 30 grams. Avoid drinking alcohol after taking your dose of diroximel fumarate. If you experience flushing, it is likely that the sensation will decrease with time. Ask your doctor if taking aspirin can help reduce flushing. Store away from heat and moisture at room temperature. Diroximel fumarate may have long-lasting effects on your body. You may require frequent medical testing while taking diroximel fumarate and even for a few days afterward.

Adult dose for multiple sclerosis:
Initial dose: Orally, 231 mg twice daily for 7 days
Maintenance dose: 462mg orally, twice daily.
Use: To treat relapsing multiple sclerosis, including clinically isolated syndromes, relapsing remitting diseases, and active secondary progressing disease.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take two doses of the same medicine at once.

To reduce some side effects, avoid eating high-fat or high-calorie foods and snacks when taking diroximel fumarate.
