What is Suvorexant?

Suvorexant is a sleeping medicine that treats the symptoms of insomnia (having trouble sleeping or lying down). Suvorexant is also employed for other purposes that are not covered in this guideline.

Side effects of Suvorexant

See a doctor immediately. If you are experiencing symptoms that are warning signs of an allergic response, such as difficulty breathing, hives, and swelling of your lips, face, or tongue, Some people who use suvorexant were involved in activities while asleep and later didn't remember the activity. It is possible to suffer from adverse effects if you're obese.

Common adverse effects of suvorexant could include:

  • Strange dreams, or
  • Sleepiness in the course of the day after taking suvorexant.

Warnings

Do not take any more suvorexant than what your doctor has recommended.

Some patients taking this medication have been involved in activities while they were not awake and then did not remember them. If this happens to you, contact your doctor immediately.

Prior to use this Drug

Suvorexant should not be used when you have an allergy to it or suffer from narcolepsy.

Speak to your doctor if you are ever diagnosed with:

  • Depression, mental illness, or thoughts of suicide;
  • Addiction to alcohol or drugs or addiction
  • Breathing issues; sleep apnea (breathing ceases during sleep);
  • The liver condition;
  • Sudden muscle weakness;
  • An excessive amount of sleepiness in normal hours of waking; or
  • If you've been snoozing at odd moments.

How to take Suvorexant?

Follow the instructions on the prescription label and review all medication manuals. Don't use suvorexant in larger quantities or for a longer period than prescribed. Inform your physician if you notice an increase in your desire to take suvorexant in greater quantities. Suvorexant could be addictive. The misuse of the drug can lead to addiction or overdose. It can also cause death. Keep the medication in a safe place so that others aren't able to access it. Giving away or selling this medicine is against the law.

Only take suvorexant once a night, about 30 minutes prior to the time you go to bed. Suvorexant can be taken in combination with food or not. Be sure to avoid taking the medicine immediately after eating, or else the medication may take longer to take. Suvorexant will cause you to feel sleepy. Do not take this medication if you do not have 7 hours of rest before you can be active again. You might have trouble talking or moving when you're sleeping. It could take a longer time to awaken, speak, or move around once you get up. It may be that you've been sleeping for a few minutes since awakening. Contact your physician if your insomnia symptoms don't improve or get worse after taking suvorexant for 7–10 nights in a row. Place it in a cool, dry place free of heat, moisture, and light. Be aware of the medication you are taking. It is important to be aware if you are using the medicine improperly or without a prescription.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Insomnia:

10 mg taken orally every morning before bed
Maximum dose: 20 mg once a day.

Comments:
Take in the first 30 minutes after going to bed in the minimum of 7 hours to go prior to the scheduled time of getting up.
If 10 mg is well-tolerated but not very effective, The dose may be increased.
The time it takes to take effect can be delayed if taken during or immediately after a meal.

Use: sleepiness that is characterized by problems with sleep at the onset or sleep maintenance.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Suvorexant can be taken at night if required, and you're not likely to miss the dose. Don't take this medicine when you do not have seven hours of sleep before returning to activity.

What should be avoided?

For at least eight hours following taking suvorexant, avoid driving or doing any activity that demands you be aware. Your reactions may be impaired. Do not drink alcohol. Don't drink suvorexant if you consumed alcohol within the past couple of hours prior to getting ready for bed.

Interaction with other drugs

Suvorexant, in combination with other medications that cause you to feel drowsy, could cause more of this. Consult your physician before taking opioid medications, a sleeping pill, a muscle relaxer, or medication for anxiety or seizures.

It is sometimes not safe to take certain medications together. Certain drugs may affect the blood levels of other medications you are taking, which could create side effects or render the medication less effective.

Other medications can affect suvorexant as well, including medications that are prescribed and available over the counter, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your physician about the medicines you are currently taking as well as any medications you are about to start or stop taking.
