
What is Detrol?
Detrol helps reduce spasms in the muscles of your bladder.
Detrol, a prescription medication used for adults with overactive bladder symptoms such as:
- Urge urinary incontinence is the need to urinate when there are accidents that leak or get wet.
- Urgency: the strong urge to urinate immediately;
- Frequency: Urinating frequently
Children who were studied did not show any improvement in symptoms associated with an overactive bladder.
Warnings
Detrol should not be taken if there is an allergy to Toviaz or Tolterodine, if your narrow-angle eye disease hasn't been treated or controlled, or if you are suffering from a blocked urinary system, stomach, or intestines. Tell your doctor before taking Detrol if you suffer from kidney, liver, or myasthenia gravis. Also, let them know if there is a family or personal history of "Long QT Syndrome." Detrol LA capsules are not to be crushed, broken, chewed, or opened. It is best to swallow it whole. If you break or open the pill, too much drug may be released. It can affect your ability to think or react. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that requires alertness. Detrol can have side effects that are worsened by alcohol.
Detrol can cause interactions with many drugs. Inform your physician of all medications you are currently taking. Included are prescriptions, vitamins, herbal, and over-the-counter products. Never start taking a new medicine without consulting your doctor. List all of your medications and give them to every healthcare professional who treats you.
Before you take this drug
Detrol should not be used if:
- Trouble emptying your bowels?
- A blockage of the stomach can cause slow digestion.
- Uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Detrol will be safe for you:
- A stomach or intestinal problem;
- Constipation is a common problem.
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Myasthenia gravis;
- An insufficient urine flow or difficulty with emptying the bladder are symptoms that should not be ignored.
- Glaucoma;
- Long QT Syndrome
Inform your doctor whether you are breastfeeding or pregnant.

How to take Detrol?
Follow the instructions on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets. Read all the instructions on the prescription label. Take water. You can take Detrol every day, with or without eating. Do not open, crush, chew, or break the capsule. Keep away from heat, moisture, and light.
Details on dosage
Adult dose for urinary incontinence:
Tablets for immediate release:
Initial dose: Orally, 2 mg twice a day.
Maintenance dose: 1 mg to 2mg orally, 2 times per day, depending on the patient's response and tolerance.
Long-release capsules
Initial dose: 4mg orally, once per day.
Maintenance dose: 2-4 mg once daily, orally. This depends on the patient's response.
Comments:
This drug may be taken either with food or without.
The extended-release formulation must be swallowed whole.

What happens if I miss the dose?
Do not use the missed dose. Use your regular dose. Use only one dose per day.
What happens if I overdose?
Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.
What should be avoided?
Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how the medicine affects you. You may be unable to react properly.
Side effects of Detrol
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy to Detrol, seek emergency medical attention: itching, difficulty breathing, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.
If you experience:
- Confusion, hallucinations;
- Constipation or severe abdominal pain;
- Urination that is painful or difficult
Some of the most common detrol side effects include:
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness;
- Constipation;
- Stomach pain;
- Headache.

Interaction with other drug
You may have a higher risk of heart disease if you are also taking certain medicines to treat infections, asthma, high blood pressure, depression, mental illnesses, cancer, HIV, malaria, or HIV.

- Cyclosporine;
