What is Derma Smoothe/FS Scalp?

Fluocinolone topical is a type of steroid. It inhibits chemicals that are responsible for inflammation in the body. The body oil fluocinolone is used for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Fluocinolone oil for the scalp is used in the treatment of psoriasis. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Derma Smoothe/FS Scalp.

Side effects of Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic response, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.

If you experience severe skin irritation or show any signs that Derma-Smoothe, FS, or Scalp is being absorbed through the skin (such as:

  • Headache, blurred vision
  • Skin thinning, easy to bruise;
  • Mood changes
  • Weight gain and puffiness on your face
  • Feeling tired and having achy muscles

Side effects that Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp may cause include:

  • Mild skin irritation, such as mild itching or burning;
  • Temporary hair loss
  • Swollen hair follicles;
  • Blisters, pimples, or crusting on treated skin
  • Changes in the color of treated skin
  • Itching or rashes around the mouth
  • Fever, sore throat, and runny or stuffy nasal passages
  • Red spots or tiny veins around the nose, cheeks, or chin

Warnings

Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp should not be used in excess or longer than the recommended time. The skin can absorb topical steroids, which could cause side effects in other parts of the body. This medicine contains peanut oil. You should tell your doctor about any peanut allergies. This medication can cause side effects in children because they absorb more through their skin. If your symptoms don't improve after 2 weeks, they get worse, or you have signs of an infection, call your doctor.

Before you take this drug

This medication should be avoided if you have an allergy to fluocinolone. This medicine contains peanut oil. You should tell your doctor about any peanut allergies you may have. Tell your doctor about any skin infections. Tell your doctor as well if you suffer from type 2 diabetes. The use of topical steroids absorbed by the skin can increase your glucose levels. FDA pregnancy class CThere is no information on whether Derma-Smoothe or FS will harm a developing baby. If you plan to get pregnant or are already pregnant, tell your doctor. The oil does not pass into the breast milk. It is also unknown if this topical fluocinolone could cause harm to a baby who was nursing. If you're breastfeeding, do not use this medicine on your chest. Long-term usage of this drug can cause side effects or growth delays in children. If you feel that your child's growth is slower than normal, talk to your doctor.

How to take Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or use Derma-Smoothe/FS (Scalp) for longer than prescribed. Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp should not be used in greater or lesser amounts or longer than prescribed. The skin can absorb topical steroids, which could cause side effects in other parts of the body. Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp should only be used on the face, underarms, or groin if your doctor says so. This medication should not be applied to areas of skin that have creases. Use Derma-Smoothe or FS Scalp after washing your hands. Apply Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp in thin layers to treat atopic dermatitis. Gently rub into the skin. Only use enough oil to coat the skin. Cover treated areas of skin with bandages or any other type of covering only if your doctor says so. Apply Derma-Smoothe or FS Scalp at night to treat scalp psoriasis. Apply a thin layer of medicine to your scalp after thoroughly wetting or dampening the hair. Cover your head with the shower cap and massage it well. Let the medicine stay on for 4 to 8 hours or overnight. The next day, wash and rinse your hair thoroughly using regular shampoo. Fluocinolone can be used daily, even if you don't wash your hair. Apply the medication to the scalp without wetting your hair. After leaving the medication on your hair for 4 hours, rinse it thoroughly. Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp can be used to treat atopic dermitis. It is recommended that you apply it twice daily for 4 weeks. Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp can be applied daily to scalp psoriasis until symptoms subside. You can continue to use the drug once a week or as often as necessary until the symptoms improve. If your symptoms don't improve after 2 weeks, they get worse, or you have signs of an infection on your skin, call your doctor. You may require frequent medical testing at the doctor's clinic if you take this drug long-term. Keep the bottle at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. When not in use, keep the bottle closed tightly.

What happens if I miss the dose?

As soon as possible, take the dose you missed. If the next dose is imminent, take only that medication which was scheduled. Do not make up a missed dosage by eating something extra or snacking during that timeframe.You should not take extra medication to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 immediately if you suspect poisoning and seek immediate medical care.Overdoses of Derma-Smoothe or FS Scalp are unlikely to cause life-threatening symptoms. Long-term use of high doses of steroids can cause symptoms like thinning of the skin, bruising easily, changes to your body's shape and location (especially on your neck, face, back, and waist), acne, facial hair growth, menstrual issues, impotence, or loss of sexual interest.

What should be avoided?

Derma-Smoothe/FS Scalp should not be used to treat skin conditions that have not been examined by your physician. Do not get this medication into your eyes. Rinse your eyes with water if this happens. Use Derma-Smoothe/FS on infected or broken skin or open wounds.

Interaction with other drug

Fluocinolone applied topically is unlikely to be affected by other medications you may take orally or those that are injected. Many drugs interact. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines that you take, including prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbs.
