What is Filgrastim?

Filgrastim is a treatment for neutropenia (lack of certain white blood cells) in patients who are taking particular cancer drugs, who are undergoing a bone marrow transplant, or who are triggered by other ailments. Neupogen, Zarxio, and Nivestym can be utilised in a process known as leukapheresis. This is a procedure where the white blood cells that are required to support the transplantation of stem cells are taken out of the body. Neupogen is also used in patients who have been exposed to a specific dose of radiation. Filgrastim is also employed for reasons not mentioned in this guideline.

Side effects of Filgrastim

  • Pain, fever, cough, difficulty breathing;

  • Anaemia (low red blood cells);

  • Diarrhoea;
  • Headache;
  • Numbness
  • Rash
  • Hair loss.

Before taking this drug

Filgrastim is not a good choice in the event that you are allergic to filgrastim or another stimulant of the colon, granulocytes, like pegfilgrastim, tbo-filgrastim, sargramostim, or eflapegrastim. The use of filgrastim could increase the chance of developing myelodysplastic disorder (MDS) or acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in the case of specific medical health conditions. How to take Filgrastim?
