What is Xpect-PE?

There are a variety of kinds and brands of guaifenesin and phenylephrine available, and not all of them are mentioned in this leaflet.

Guaifenesin can be described as an expectorant. It can help ease congestion in your throat, chest, and throat, making it easier for you to cough out of your mouth.

Phenylephrine, a decongestant, shrinks blood vessels within the passageways to and from the nose. The blood vessels are dilapidated and can lead to nose congestion (stuffy nostrils).

"Xpect"-PE is a combination medication used to treat nasal stuffiness and sinus congestion, as well as to ease chest congestion that is caused by commonly-assisted flu as well as influenza.

Xpect-PE can also be used for other purposes that are not covered in this guideline.

Side effects of Xpect-PE

See a doctor immediately. Get medical attention immediately if you notice symptoms that indicate an allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of your lips, face, and tongue.

Xpect-PE can cause serious adverse effects. Stop using Xpect PE and consult your physician immediately. If you experience:

  • Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat;
  • Extreme anxiety or anxiousness.

Common adverse effects of XpectPE could include:

  • Dry the nose, mouth, or throat;
  • An upset stomach Loss in appetite loss of appetite, vomiting;
  • Being anxious or agitated (especially when it is a child);
  • Sleep problems (insomnia);
  • Headache, dizziness.

Warnings

Don't give the medicine to children less than 4 years old. Always consult a physician before introducing any cold or cough medicine to children. In very young children, improper use of cough or cold medications can result in death.

Before you take this drug

Do not take Xpect PE if you have an allergy to it.

Avoid using Xpect-PE if you've used an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days. A risky drug interaction may occur. MAO inhibitors are isocarboxazid, linezolid, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, and tranylcypromine.

Speak with a pharmacist or doctor to determine if it is safe for you to be taking this drug if you suffer from:

  • Hypertension, heart disease, coronary artery disease;
  • Diabetes;
  • Circulation issues;
  • Glaucoma;
  • Hyperactive thyroid
  • An increased prostate or urinary problem.

It is unknown whether this medication could be detrimental to the unborn baby. Do not take Xpect PE in the absence of medical consultation if you are expecting.

Guaifenesin, as well as phenylephrine, could be absorbed in breast milk and cause harm to a nursing infant. Decongestants can also affect the production of breast milk. Do not take this medicine without a medical recommendation in the case of breastfeeding babies.

Artificially sweetened liquid medicines could contain phenylalanine. Be sure to read the label of your medicine for the presence of phenylketonuria (PKU).

How to take expect PE?

Follow the directions on the label or as recommended by your physician. Avoid using in larger quantities, in smaller amounts, or for longer periods than recommended. Cold or cough medicine is typically taken for a short period of time until symptoms improve.

Do not give this medicine to a child who is less than four years old. Always consult a physician prior to giving cold or cough medicine to children. Death can occur because of the improper use of cold or cough medicine by very young children.

Take measurements of liquid medicines using the dosing syringe that comes with it or a specially designed measuring spoon or cup for measuring doses. If you don't have a device for measuring doses, you can ask your pharmacist for one.

Do not chew, crush, break, open, or crush the extended-release capsule or tablet. Take it in whole.

Drink plenty of fluids to alleviate congestion and lubricate your throat while taking this medication.

Contact your physician if your symptoms don't improve after seven weeks of therapy, if you are suffering from a fever that causes headaches or coughing, or if you have the appearance of a skin condition.

Place it in a cool, dry place free of heat and moisture.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Because Xpect-PE can be taken as required, you might not be following a dose schedule. If you take the medication on a regular basis, you should make sure to take your missed dose immediately when you remember. Do not take any missed doses if it's nearing the time for the next dose. Do not take any additional medicine to make up for the missed dose.

What should be avoided?

This medication can affect your ability to think or react. Be cautious if you drive or engage in activities that require you to be vigilant.

Drinking alcohol can trigger the effects of guaifenesin as well as phenylephrine.

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any other cold, cough, or allergy medication. The Xpect-PE ingredient is found in a variety of combinations of medications. Combining certain medications could cause you to take excessive amounts of a specific medication.

Interaction with other drugs

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist prior to taking Xpect-PE when you're also taking other medicines, such as prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Certain medications can trigger unwanted or harmful reactions when combined. Some interactions may not be mentioned in this guideline.

Combining this medication with other medications that make you sleepy or slow your breathing could increase the severity of these effects. Talk to your doctor prior to using Xpect-PE in conjunction with a sleep drug, opioid pain medication, muscle relaxer, medication to treat anxiety or depression, or seizures.
