What is Vesicare?

Vesicare, a prescription medication, is used to treat the symptoms of an overactive bladder. These include frequent or urgent urination and incontinence.vesicare® LS liquid oral suspension is prescribed to children aged at least two years for overactive bladder due to a neurological disorder such as multiple sclerosis.Warning: vesicare 10mg and 5mg tablets have not been approved for children.

This medicine should not be used if your narrow-angle eye disease is untreated, uncontrolled, or you cannot urinate.

Before you take this drug

Vesicare should not be used if:

  • Untreated narrow-angle Glaucoma, or glaucoma that is not controlled,
  • A stomach disorder that causes delayed emptying.
  • If you're unable to urinate,

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that vesicare will be safe for you:

  • Glaucoma;
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • You may have difficulty emptying your bowels (or a weak urine stream);
  • Slow digestion;
  • A blockage of your stomach, intestines, or both
  • Long QT syndrome.

This medicine is unknown to cause harm to an unborn child. Inform your doctor of any pregnancy or plans to get pregnant.vesicare should not be used while breastfeeding.

How to take Vesicare?

Follow all instructions listed on your prescription label and read all medication guides or instruction sheets for your medication. Read all the instructions on the prescription label.Take vesicare once a day, with or without eating. Please follow your doctor's directions.The tablet should not be crushed, chewed, or broken. It is best to swallow it whole.

Before measuring a dosage, shake the orally suspended liquid. You can use the supplied dosing device or a dose-measuring tool (not a spoon).Use water to dissolve the tablet.Drink a glass or two of milk after taking vesicare liquid. You may experience an unpleasant aftertaste if you take the liquid along with other foods or drinks.

Keep this medication in its original container, at room temperature, and away from heat or moisture. Keep the bottle securely closed when not in use.. After 28 days, throw away all unused fluid.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for urinary incontinence:

First dose: Take 5 mg once a day.
Maintenance dose: 5–10 mg once daily.
Treatment of urinary urgency and frequency of urine with overactive bladder symptoms

Adult dose for urinary frequency:

First dose: Take 5 mg once daily.
Maintenance dose: 5–10 mg once daily.
Treatment of urinary urgency and frequency with overactive bladder symptoms

What happens if I miss the dose?

Do not take the missed tablet and continue to use the next regular dose. Take no more than one dose a day.If you miss a dose, skip it if you are more than 12 hours late. Never take more than one dose at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

Avoid this

Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how the medicine affects you. You may be unable to react properly.

Exercise in warm weather and avoid becoming dehydrated or overheated. You may become more susceptible to heatstroke if you use vesicare.

Side effects of Vesicare

If you experience symptoms of an allergic response to vesicare, such as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling, or severe skin reactions (fever or sore throat with burning, pain in the eyes or skin, blistering or peeling skin, or red or purple rash), seek emergency medical attention.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, stop using vesicare immediately and contact your doctor.

  • If you have had severe abdominal pain or constipation lasting 3 days or more, then this is a serious condition.
  • Pain or burning after urinating;
  • Headache, confusion, drowsiness, hallucinations;
  • Vision changes or eye pain
  • You may have little to no urination or experience pain or burning while urinating.
  • Symptoms of dehydration include: feeling dizzy or tired; feeling thirsty or very hot; decreased sweating or hotness with dryness.
  • High potassium level: nausea, chest pains, irregular heartbeats, and loss of mobility

Vesicare may cause side effects such as:

  • Blurred vision
  • Dry mouth and dry eyes
  • Painful urination
  • Constipation is a common symptom.
  • Heat stroke: reduced sweating, dryness of the skin, fatigue, nausea, and dizziness

Interaction with other drug

It is sometimes not safe to take certain drugs at the same time. Some medications can cause side effects that increase or decrease the effectiveness of another drug you are taking.

Solifenacin can have interactions with many drugs. These include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. This list does not include all interactions. Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking and those that you will stop or start using.
