What is Sumavel DosePro?

Sumavel DosePro (sumatriptan) is a headache medicine that reduces blood vessels in the brain. Sumatriptan also decreases the presence of certain substances within the body that can cause headaches, nausea, sensitization to sounds and light, and other headache symptoms. Sumavel DosePro is a painless injection for treating migraines or cluster headaches in adults. Sumavel DosePro is only used to treat headaches. It will not stop headaches or decrease the frequency of attacks.

Sumavel DosePro is not employed to treat common tension-related headaches or headaches that result in an inability to move the other part of the body. Only use this medication in cases where your condition is diagnosed by a medical professional because migraines are a common cause of headaches.

Warnings

You should not use Sumavel DosePro if you have ever had heart disease, coronary artery disease, blood circulation problems, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe liver disease, a heart attack or stroke, or if your headache seems to be different from your usual migraine headaches. Don't use Sumavel DosePro in the event that you've taken an MAO inhibitor within the past 14 days, including isocarboxazid or linezolid, blue injections, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine. It is not clear if Sumavel DosePro can affect a newborn baby. Inform your physician if you are expecting or planning to be pregnant. Sumatriptan may be absorbed into the breast milk. Do not breastfeed for at least 12 hours after using Sumavel DosePro. If you pump your breasts during this time, you should throw away the milk you collect. Don't give it to your infant. Sumavel DosePro is not a product that is approved to be used by anyone younger than 18 years of age.

How to take Sumavel DosePro?

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Migraine:

Use only after a specific diagnosis of migraine is made.

Subcutaneous:
Initial dose: 1–6 mg administered subcutaneously at least once
If a response to the first dose is observed, a subsequent dose could be administered within 1 hour following the first dose.
Maximum dose: 12 mg per 24 hours.

Comments:
Treatment should be initiated when you first notice migraine headaches or other associated symptoms, such as nausea or vomiting. This medication is not recommended for migraine prevention.
Higher doses could result in a stronger effect, but they also pose a higher chance of developing adverse reactions.
The security treatment of an average of over four headaches over a 30-day time frame has not been proven.

Use: To treat the acute treatment of migraine, with and without aura.

Usual Adult Dose for Cluster Headache:

Subcutaneous injection:
Initial dose: 6 mg subcutaneously, once. If the symptoms persist, then the dose can be repeated if 1 hour has passed since the initial dose.

What happens If I miss a dose?

Side effects of Sumavel DosePro

Stop taking Sumavel DosePro and contact your doctor immediately if you are suffering from:

  • Acute stomach pains and bleeding vomiting;
  • Extreme chest pain, breathlessness, and irregular heartbeats.
  • A seizure (convulsions);
