What is Methenamine and sodium salicylate?

Methenamine slows the growth of bacteria. Sodium salicylate, also known as salicylates, is a pain reliever and a nonsteroidal antibiotic (NSAID). Combination medicine containing methenamine and sodium salicylate relieves symptoms such as bladder infection, irritation, or painful or burning urine. Methenamine, sodium salicylate, and other medications can help slow down the progression of bladder infections. You should consult your doctor to ensure that you don't need an anti-biotic medication. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for sodium salicylate and phenamine.

Side effects Methenamine and sodium salicylate

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek emergency medical attention: Sneezing; Runny/Stuffy Nose; Wheezing; Trouble Breathing; Hives; or swelling in your mouth, face, lips, or throat

The side effects of this medicine can be serious. If you experience:

  • Ringing in the ears
  • A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you could pass out.
  • New or worsening abdominal pain
  • Bloody or tarry stool, vomiting blood, or vomit that looks like coffee ground

Warnings

Methenamine or sodium salicylate may increase the risk of a fatal stroke. This medicine should not be taken before or immediately after having a heart bypass (also known as a CABG or coronary artery bypass). This medication can also cause fatal stomach or intestinal blood loss.

Before you take this drug

Even if there are no risk factors, an NSAID may increase the risk of a fatal stroke or heart attack. This medicine should not be taken before or immediately after heart bypass surgery.An NSAID can also lead to fatal stomach and intestinal bleeding. You may not be aware of these conditions if you use methenamine or sodium salicylate.This medicine should not be used if you have an allergy to aspirin, methenamine, or sodium salicylate.If you have never experienced these symptoms, consult a physician before trying methenamine or sodium salicylate for painful or frequent urine.

If you've ever:

  • Stomach ulcers, bleeding, or heartburn
  • Heart diseases, hypertension.
  • Liver diseases, such as cirrhosis.
  • If you're on a diet low in salt,
  • If you consume more than three alcoholic drinks each day, these amounts could lead to health risks.

Before taking this medication if you are pregnant or nursing, consult with your healthcare provider first.Do not take an NSAID if you are pregnant unless you have been told to by your doctor. NSAIDs can lead to serious kidney or heart problems for the baby, as well as pregnancy complications.Methenamine sodium salicylate should not be given to children younger than 12 years old without consulting a doctor. Never give this medication to children or teens with flu, chickenpox, fever, or other symptoms. Salicylates may cause Reye’s syndrome.

How to take  Methenamine and sodium salicylate?

Follow the instructions on the packaging or those prescribed by your physician. You should use the lowest effective dose to treat your condition. Methenamine or sodium salicylate should be taken with water. Every day, drink plenty of water. If your symptoms persist after three days, call your doctor. Keep away from heat, moisture, and light.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Unless it is time for another dose soon, skip any missed one and don't take more than one at the same time.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

They may contain ingredients similar to methenamine and sodium salicylate . These medicines may have ingredients that are similar to sodium salicylate and methenamine (aspirin, ibuprofen, or ketoprofen). Avoid alcohol. Avoid alcohol.

Interaction with other drug

Before using sodium salicylate or methenamine with other drugs, ask your doctor.

  • A diuretic, or "water pills."
  • Medicine to treat gout, arthritis,
  • Insulin or diabetes oral medicine
  • A blood thinner—Warfarin, Coumadin, and Jantoven
