What is MCT?

MCT is a type of medical food that is made from polyunsaturated safflower oils and fatty acids. MCT can be used by people who cannot digest certain foods properly. It is for people who are lactose or gluten intolerant, have an unintended loss of weight, or need more calories due to medical reasons. MCT is not a source of protein or carbohydrates. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of MCT.

Side effects of MCT

If you experience symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction, including: hives, difficulty breathing and/or swelling to lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately! Before you take this drug

If you've ever experienced an allergic reaction to MCT, then it is best not to use MCT.

If you suffer from severe liver disease, such as:

  • Liver disease, or cirrhosis.
  • High blood pressure inside the liver
  • Brain or nervous system problems caused by a severe liver injury;
  • If you have a "portacaval" shunt in your body,

How to take MCT?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage or duration. Use the recommended dose and do not exceed it. MCT can be used to make sauces, baked goods, salads, and other foods. Be sure to shake the liquid thoroughly before using this product. Store MCT away from moisture, heat, and humidity at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

This product can be used as needed. You are unlikely to have a schedule of dosages.

What happens if I overdose?

A MCT overdose is unlikely to cause any life-threatening symptoms.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor prescribes any restrictions regarding food, beverage or activity consumption or physical activities, be sure to follow their orders accordingly.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products, may interact with medium-chain triglycerides. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines you are taking and those you plan to take.
