What is Maxzide?

Hydrochlorothiazide thiazide (water pill) Triamterene is a diuretic that is potassium-sparing. Maxzide is a combination medication used to treat fluid accumulation (edema) and hypertension. Maxzide is typically prescribed to patients who have hypokalemia (low levels of potassium in their blood) after taking other diuretics. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Maxzide.

Side effects of Maxzide

If you experience signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling on your face or in your throat, or symptoms of an allergy (such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling), or symptoms of a severe skin response (such as a fever, burning eyes, pain in the skin, rashes with blisters and peeling, or red or purple rash),

If you experience:

  • Blurred vision, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights
  • Experience lightheadedness as though you could faint.
  • Heart rate can be fast, slow, or uneven.
  • If you have liver or pancreas issues, look out for the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, rapid heart rate, and dark urine.
  • High potassium level: nausea, weakness, tingly sensation, feeling tired or weak, slow heartbeats, and loss of mobility;
  • Low potassium level: leg pain, constipation, increased thirst or urination, numbness, tingling or numbness, muscle weakness, or a limp feeling.
  • Kidney problems: little or no urine, swelling of the feet or ankles, and feeling tired or breathless;
  • Lupus-like symptoms include muscle or joint pains, flu-like symptoms, chest discomfort, a rash, or patches of skin that become darker in the sun;
  • Other signs of electrolyte balance include thirst, dry mouth, and stomach pain.

Maxzide can cause the following side effects:

  • Stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, and constipation;
  • Dizziness, headache;
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry mouth

Warnings

Maxzide should not be used if you have kidney disease, problems with urination, high potassium levels in your blood, or are taking diuretics that are similar to triamterene. This medication can cause dangerously high potassium levels in your blood, especially if it is taken by an older adult or someone with kidney disease, diabetes, or a severe illness. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: nausea or tingling, fatigue, weakness, or loss of movement.

Before you take this drug

This medicine should not be used if you have an allergy to triamterene or hydrochlorothiazide, or:

  • You have kidney disease, or you are unable to urinate.
  • You have hyperkalemia (high potassium levels).
  • You are taking a diuretic similar to triamterene, such as amiloride or spironolactone.
  • You are taking potassium supplements unless your doctor has told you otherwise.

Triamterene, a diuretic, can cause dangerously high potassium levels in your blood. It is more common if you suffer from kidney disease, diabetes, or a severe illness. Your doctor can inform you about any personal risks.

Tell your doctor about any of the following:

  • Diabetes;
  • Cirrhosis and other liver diseases
  • Heart rhythm disorder;
  • Gout;
  • The condition of glaucoma or cataracts;
  • An allergy to penicillin or sulfa drugs;
  • Kidney stone
  • If you're on a diet low in salt,

This medicine is not known to harm an unborn child. Inform your doctor immediately if you are pregnant or planning on becoming pregnant. Breastfeeding mothers should avoid taking this medicine. The use of this medicine by those under 18 is not recommended.

How to take Maxzide?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose.Take the medication exactly as instructed. Maxzide can be taken up to once a day. You may need to undergo frequent medical tests. Tests can be used to determine the effectiveness of Maxzide, even if you do not have any symptoms. Your heart may need to be monitored using an electrocardiograph (ECG, also called EKG). Potassium levels can be affected by severe illness. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, serious illness, or injury, call your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are currently taking this medication. It may be necessary to temporarily stop using this medicine. Even if you are feeling well, continue to take this medication if you have high blood pressure. Often, high blood pressure has no symptoms. Blood pressure medication may be needed for the rest of your life. Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat and light to maintain optimal storage conditions.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If it is almost time for your next dose, skip any missed one altogether and do not double up on any medicine at the same time. Doing so could harm the effectiveness of both doses taken simultaneously.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention. Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and weakness. They may also include a fever, warmth in the face, or a flushing of your skin.

What should be avoided?

Use potassium supplements, sodium substitutes, or low-sodium dairy products only if your doctor says so. Avoid eating a lot of salt. Maxzide can be less effective if you consume too much salt. Skin cancer is increased by hydrochlorothiazide. Avoid tanning beds or sunlight. When you're outdoors, wear protective clothing and apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher). You may be asked by your doctor to undergo regular skin checks. Drink enough fluids throughout exercise or hot weather activities in order to stay properly hydrated, according to your physician's recommendations for both quantity and type. Be wary about drinking excessive quantities as too much liquid could prove just as hazardous to health as not enough! Never drive or engage in hazardous activities until you understand how a medicine will impact you.

Interaction with other drug

Tell your doctor about your other medications, including:

  • Any other blood pressure medication;
  • Amphotericin b;
  • Chlorpropamide;
  • Digoxin;
  • Laxatives;
  • Lithium;
  • Methenamine;
  • A blood thinner
  • Oral diabetes medicine;
  • Steroid medications (prednisone, among others)
  • An ace inhibitor—benazepril, captopril, enalapril, fosinopril, lisinopril, moexipril, perindopril, quinapril, ramipril, and trandolapril;
  • Nsaids are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as aspirin (advil), ibuprofen, naproxen, celecoxib (aleve), diclofenac (indomethacin), meloxicam, and others.
