What is Interferon alfa n3?

Adults can be treated with interferon alfa n3 for genital warts. Interferon alfa n3 should only be used on the outside.

When other treatments fail, interferon alfa n3 is often prescribed. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Interferon alfa 3.

Side effects of Interferon alfa-n3

If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as hives, chest pain, difficulty breathing, swelling on your face or in your throat, or a severe reaction to the skin (fever or sore throat with burning eyes, skin irritation, or a red or purple rash that blisters and peels), seek emergency medical attention.

Interferon alfa-n3 may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Chest pain or pressure
  • Feelings of lightheadedness, as though one could pass out.
  • Blurred vision
  • A hoarse voice;
  • Low white blood cell count—fevers, sore throats, sore mouths, skin ulcers, and cough

Interferon alfa n3 can cause a number of side effects, including:

  • Headache;
  • Vomiting;
  • Fever, chills, and flu-like symptoms
  • Joint or muscle pain.

Warnings

If your warts have not disappeared within 3 months of your last interferon alfa n3 injection, call your doctor.

Before you take this drug

Inform your doctor if any of the following apply to you:

  • Low white blood cell counts
  • An autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus;
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Mental illness or depression
  • Heart problems
  • A thyroid disorder.

Inform your doctor immediately if you are pregnant or nursing.

How to take Interferon alfa n3?

The injection of Interferon alfa n3 directly into the wart lesions is usually done twice per week for up to eight weeks. This injection will be administered by a healthcare provider. You may still see improvement after treatment, even if your lesions only partially disappear after 8 weeks. If your warts don't disappear within 3 months of your last injection, tell your doctor.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for Condylomata acuminata:

Condyloma Condylomata is a recurring or refractory external
0.05 ml (250 000 international units) per wart injected intralesionally twice a week up to 8 weeks
The maximum dose recommended per treatment session is 0.50 ml (2.5 million international units).
The treatment should not be repeated until at least three months after the 8-week initial course (unless warts are growing or new warts have appeared).
Use: To treat external condylomata that are refractory, recurring, or refractory.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are unable to attend your scheduled interferon alfa n3 injection, call your doctor.

What happens if I overdose?

In a medical setting, an overdose is treated immediately.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor prescribes any restrictions regarding food, beverage, or activity, follow their instructions.

Interaction with other drug

Interferon alfa n3 can be affected by other drugs, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the other medications you take.
