What is Iluvien?
Fluocinolone Ophthalmic (for eyes) Implant is a drug that is prescribed to treat macular oedema caused by diabetes, which is the result of a buildup of fluid in the retina that is due to the leakage in blood vessels. Iluvien is also used to treat posterior Uveitis. It is a condition that causes inflammation in the posterior part in the eye. Implants release fluocinolone slowly into the eye for a period which is between 30 to 36 months. Iluvien is also used to treat other conditions that are not addressed in this article.
Side effects of Iluvien
Consult a doctor immediately if you're suffering from symptoms that could indicate an allergy, like signs of hives, breathing problems and swelling in your face, lips and tongue.
Iluvien can result in serious side negative effects. Contact your physician immediately in the case you experience:
- Vision blurred tunnel vision issues the peripheral (side) vision
- Eyes that are bleeding, oozing, or crusting your eyes
- Flashes of light as well as "floaters" in your vision or
- The pupil may be cloudy or the Iris (the part of your eyes which is coloured). ).

Warnings
There is no reason to be suggested to treat yourself with Iluvien in the event you are suffering from glaucoma or a different infection in or around the eyes (including herpes).
Before taking this medication.
It's not recommended to treat with this medication if you suffer from an allergic reaction to fluocinolone.. you are suffering from:
- Glaucoma
- All kinds of infections that can be found within eyelids.
Eye implants made of fluocinolone could increase the chance of developing cataracts and needing cataract surgery. Discuss with your doctor if you have concerns about this possibility.
Inform your physician If you've ever had any of the following conditions:
- Simplex Herpes;
- Cataract surgery,
- A detached retina.
Inform your doctor if you are expecting. It is not clear what Iluvien may harm a baby that isn't yet born in the event you receive the implant while you are expecting. Consult your physician immediately if you are pregnant during the 36-month period after receiving implants. The FDA has not advised you to feed your baby when taking this medication. Discuss with your physician any potential dangers.
What is the procedure of installing the Iluvien?
A doctor will surgically insert the implant inside the eye of the patients.
