What is Histex?

Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of the natural chemical histamine that is present in the body. Histamine is known to cause nasal congestion, itching, watery eyes, and a runny nose.

Pseudoephedrine can be described as an anti-congestant that reduces blood vessels in nasal passages. The blood vessels are dilapidated and can lead to nose congestion (stuffy nostrils). Histex is a combination medication that is used to treat symptoms of commonly-assisted colds or seasonal allergies such as sneezing, runny or stuffy noses, and watery and itchy eyes.

Histex can also be employed for other purposes that are not covered in this guideline.

Side effects of histex

This medication can cause severe adverse effects. Stop taking this medicine and consult your physician immediately if you suffer from:

  • Chest pain chest pain, rapid pulse, or irregular heart rate
  • Hallucinations, confusion, extreme nervousness,
  • Tremor, seizure (convulsions);
  • Minimal or no urination;
  • Bleeding or bruising that is an easy or unusual weakness

Common negative side effects of Histex could include:

  • Dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision;
  • Dry mouth or nose;
  • Nausea, stomach pain, constipation, and lack of appetite
  • Difficulties with memory or concentration problems with concentration or memory
  • Being anxious or restless (especially for children).

Warnings

Before taking this medication

Do not take this medicine. If you've previously used an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days, A potentially dangerous interaction between drugs may occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid rasagiline, linezolid, phenelzine selegiline, tranylcypromine, and a few others. This medication is recommended if you have an allergy to pseudoephedrine or chlorpheniramine.

Speak with a pharmacist or doctor about whether it's safe to take this medication in the event that you suffer from:

  • Asthma or COPD asthma, coughs with mucus, or coughs that are caused by smoking, emphysema, or chronic bronchitis
  • An obstruction in the stomach or intestines of your body;
  • Renal or liver illness;
  • Excessive blood pressure, a coronary condition, coronary artery disease, or a recently experienced coronary artery disease;
  • An overly large prostate or urination issues;
  • Glaucoma;
  • Diabetes;
  • Epilepsy or any other seizures;
  • Pheochromocytoma (an adrenal gland tumor);

It isn't known if Histex could cause harm to a baby who is not yet born. Do not take this medication without consulting your physician's advice if you are pregnant.

It is unclear if the chemicals in chlorpheniramine and pseudoephedrine are absorbed into breast milk or whether they can harm a nursing infant. Antihistamines or decongestants could reduce the production of breast milk. Do not take this medication without a doctor's guidance if you are breastfeeding babies.

Artificially sweetened liquid medications could contain phenylalanine. Be sure to read the label of your medicine for the presence of phenylketonuria (PKU).

How to take Histex?

Follow the directions on the label or as recommended by your physician. Do not take it in greater quantities, in smaller amounts, or for longer periods than suggested. Cold medication is typically taken for a brief period until symptoms improve. Don't give this medication to a child who is less than four years old. Always consult a physician prior to giving a child a cold or cough medicine. Death can occur because of the misuse of cold and cough medicines by very young children.

It is not recommended to use antihistamine medications to make children tired. The chewable tablet should be chewed prior to taking it in. Take measurements of liquid medicines using the syringe for dosing or using a measuring spoon or a medicine cup. If you don't have a device for measuring doses, you can ask your pharmacist for one.

If you require surgery, inform the surgeon in advance whether you've taken any cold medicine in the last few days. Contact your physician if your symptoms don't improve after seven weeks of therapy, if you suffer from a fever that causes headaches or coughs, or if you have itchy skin.

This medication could cause unorthodox results when it comes to allergy testing on your skin. Inform any physician who treats you that you're taking an antihistamine. Place it in a cool, dry place free of heat and moisture.

Do I be concerned if I miss a dose?

Because cold medicines are taken when needed, you may not be following a dose schedule. If you're taking the medicine regularly, you should take the missed dose immediately when you remember. Don't miss your missed dosage if it's close to the time of the next dose. Do not take additional medicine to make up for the missed dose.

What should be avoided?

This medication can affect your ability to think or react. Be cautious if you drive or engage in any activity that requires that you be vigilant.

Consuming alcohol while taking this medication could cause adverse consequences.

Consult a physician or pharmacist before taking any other allergy, cold, or sleep medication. A lot of combination medications include pseudoephedrine or chlorpheniramine. Combining certain medicines could cause you to take excessive amounts of this drug. Look at the label to determine the presence of an antihistamine or a decongestant.

Interaction with other drugs

Consult a physician or pharmacist prior to using Histex in conjunction with taking other medications, such as prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. If you take this medicine in conjunction with other medications that make you sleepy or slow your breathing, it could increase the severity of these effects. Consult your physician before taking Histex along with a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxers, or medication to treat anxiety, depression, or seizures.
