What is Geri Dryl?

Geri-Dryl, an antihistamine, is prescribed to treat symptoms such as sneezing and runny or watery noses, itching, hives on the skin, rash (or rashes), and itching.Geri-Dryl can also be used to treat motion sickness and induce sleep. It is also prescribed to relieve certain symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. The use of this sleep medicine is prohibited in children under 12 years.There are several brands and types of diphenhydramine. Side effects of Geri-Dryl 

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue.

Geri-Dryl can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe sleepiness
  • Urination that is painful or difficult

In older adults, side effects like constipation and confusion are more common.

Geri-Dryl side effects may include:

  • Drowsiness;
    Dry eyes and blurred vision
  • Dry mouth, throat, or nose;
  • Reduced urination
  • Constipation;
    Feeling restless or even excited.
  • After nighttime usage, you may feel a "hangover.".

Warnings

Geri-Dryl should be taken exactly as prescribed. Too much Geri Dryl may cause serious heart conditions, seizures, a coma, or even death.This sleep-aid medicine should not be used in children under 12 years of age.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to Geri-Dryl, then it is best not to use this product.If you've ever:

  • Urination or prostate problems;
    Asthma or chronic obstructive lung disease (CPD) are breathing disorders.
    glaucoma; or
  • A thyroid condition.

Before using Geri-Dryl, consult your doctor if you're pregnant or nursing. Geri Dryl can slow down breast milk production.

How to take Geri Dryl?

Follow the directions on the bottle or those prescribed by your physician. Geri-Dryl should only be used for a short time until symptoms disappear.Too much Geri Dryl may cause serious heart issues, seizures, coma, or even death.Follow the directions provided on the label when giving Geri Dryl to children. Never use this medicine to put a young child to sleep.Take Geri-Dryl for motion sickness 30 minutes prior to a motion-sickness situation (such as an aeroplane flight, boat ride, or amusement park ride). Take this medication with your meals and before bed for as long as you are in a situation that will cause motion sickness.Take Geri-Dryl 30 minutes prior to bedtime as a sleep medication.The chewable tablet must be chewed before it can be swallowed.Measuring liquid medication is important. Dosing devices are available.Only remove an oral disintegrating tablet when you're ready to use it. Allow the tablet to dissolve in your mouth without chewing. As the tablet dissolves, you should swallow it several times.If your condition is not improving after using Geri-Dryl, call your doctor.Use Geri-Dryl for no longer than two weeks for sleep disorders or seven days to relieve cold and allergy symptoms.Geri-Dryl may affect allergy skin testing. Inform any doctors who treat you about your use of Geri-Dryl.Keep away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Geri-Dryl can be used as needed, and you don't need to follow a schedule. If it is almost time to take your next dose, skip the missed dose. Never take two doses in one go.

What happens if I overdose?

Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. A diphenhydramine overdose can be deadly.The symptoms of an overdose may include anxiety or hallucinations.

Avoid this 

You should avoid driving and other hazardous activities until you are familiar with how Geridryl affects you. You may be unable to react properly.Diphenhydramine can be exacerbated by alcohol.Before using other medicines that contain Geri Dryl, consult your doctor or pharmacist. You should also avoid using any other medicines that contain Geri-Dryl. Overdosing on this medication can lead to death.

Interaction with other drug

Before using Geri Dryl, consult your doctor or pharmacist. This is especially important if you are taking any medications that may cause drowsiness, such as sleep medication, opioids, muscle relaxers, medicines for anxiety, or seizures. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you have started or stopped using. Included are prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medicines.
