Brand names: Genicin and Optiflex G.
Class of drug: nutritional products

What is Genicin?

Genicin, a sugar-protein, helps build cartilage in your body (the connective tissue that is located on your bones and joints). The naturally occurring substance genicin can be found in shellfish, fungus, and bone marrow. Alternative medicine has used Genicin to relieve arthritis-related swelling and stiffness, as well as joint discomfort. The FDA has not approved all Genicin uses. It is not recommended that you use this medicine instead of the medication your doctor prescribed. Genicin can be sold as an herbal supplement. Many herbal compounds are not manufactured to regulated standards, and some supplements on the market have been found to be contaminated by toxic metals or drugs. To avoid contamination, herbal and health supplements must be obtained from a reliable source. This product guide does not list all possible uses for Genicin.
