What is Gelnique?

Gelnique helps to reduce muscle spasms in the bladder and urinary system. Gelnique is an odorless, quick-drying topical gel that treats symptoms of overactive bladder, such as frequent urination or urgency and incontinence. Gelnique gel shouldn't be used on freshly shaved surfaces.

Warnings

Gelnique should not be used if your narrow-angle glaucoma is uncontrolled, you have a blockage of your stomach or intestines, or you cannot completely empty your bladder. Tell your doctor if, before using Gelnique, you suffer from urination issues, glaucoma, liver or kidney diseases, myasthenia gravis, severe constipation, ulcerative colitis, or any other intestinal disorder. Also, if digestion is slow or GERD, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), is present, After applying Gelnique, do not bathe or shower, go swimming, use a spa, or exercise vigorously. After the gel is completely dried, it's best to cover the treated area with clothing. You can prevent the gel from getting on your skin or other people's. Gelnique gel is flammable. Do not use the gel near an open flame, and do not smoke until it has dried completely on your skin. This medication can cause blurred vision, and it may affect your thinking or reaction. While driving or engaging in any activity requiring alertness and the ability to see clearly, you should use extreme caution. Alcohol can increase the side effects of oxybutynin. Avoid overheating or dehydration during exercise and hot weather. While using oxybutynin, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Before you take this drug

Gelnique should not be used if:

  • Untreated or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma
  • A stomach disorder causing delayed emptying;
  • If you cannot completely empty your bladder,

Gelnique should not be used by anyone under the age of 18.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Gelnique will be safe for you:

  • You may have difficulty emptying your bladder, or you may only be able to produce a weak stream.
  • An enlarged prostrate
  • A stomach disorder, such as hiatal hernia or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), and slow digestion
  • Ulcerative colitis is an example of a digestive disorder.
  • Bowel obstruction, constipation;
  • Glaucoma;
  • Myasthenia gravis;
  • Liver or kidney disease

Inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or nursing.

How to take Gelnique?

Gelniques should be used exactly as prescribed by a doctor.Peruse all instructions and directions outlined on your prescription label carefully before beginning treatment. This medicine should only be applied topically. Do not swallow. Please carefully follow all directions that accompany your medication, especially those regarding its usage and dosing. If there's anything unclear to you, consult your healthcare provider or pharmacist immediately for clarification. Gelnique Gel is only for single use. Wear clothing over the treated skin to prevent it from spreading. After applying Gelnique Gel, avoid swimming or vigorous exercise for at least an hour. Gelnique gel is flammable. Do not use it near an open flame, and do not smoke until your gel is completely dry. Put the empty gel pack in a location where pets and children cannot reach it.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are close to your next dose, skip the missed gel. Apply two doses of the gel at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Reach out immediately if a poisonous situation arises - call 1-800-222-1222, for instance - or seek immediate medical care. Overdose symptoms include tingling and warmth, feeling restless or uneasy, nausea, and not urinating at all.

What should be avoided?

Alcohol can enhance certain side effects caused by oxybutynin. Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have determined how the medicine will affect you. You may be unable to react properly. Avoid overheating or dehydration during exercise and hot weather. Oxybutynin may decrease sweating, and you could be more susceptible to heatstroke. Avoid getting the medicine in your eye. If you do get it in your eyes, rinse immediately with water. Gelnique should not be used on skin that has been treated with lotions, oils, powders, or other products. Other skin products may make it difficult for your skin to absorb oxybutynin and cause it to not work properly. Gelnique gel can be applied to treated skin.

Side effects of Gelnique

If you experience symptoms indicative of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing or swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical assistance immediately!

If you experience:

  • Little or no urination
  • Constipation severe;
  • Confusion, hallucinations;
  • Symptoms of severe heartburn, upper stomach pain, or vomiting
  • Pain or burning after urinating;
  • Symptoms of dehydration: feeling thirsty, hot, or unable to urinate. Heavy sweating or being hot with dry, itchy skin.

Common Gelnique side effects may include:

  • Redness, itching, or mild skin irritation at the site of application;
  • Dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Dry mouth
  • Dry eyes and blurred vision
  • Constipation, diarrhea, and decreased urination.

Interaction with other drug

Gelnique can make you drowsy. Before taking an opioid, sleeping pill, muscle relaxant, medicine for anxiety, or seizures, consult your doctor.

Inform your physician of all current medications you are taking, such as:

  • Antidepressants are a type of medication.
  • Cold or allergy medication that contains antihistamines (Benadryl, etc.)
  • Medicine to treat Parkinson’s disease
  • Medicine to combat excess stomach acids, stomach ulcers or motion sickness.
  • Medicine to treat overactive bowel;
  • asthma
