What is Evamist?

The transdermal spray Evamist contains estradiol. Estradiol, also known as estrogen or female sex hormonal hormone, regulates many bodily processes. Each spray contains 90 mcL, which is equivalent to 1.53 mg of estradiol.Use Evamist to reduce hot flashes caused by menopause.This medication guide does not list all possible uses for Evamist.

Side effects of Evamist 

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy to Evamist, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

If you experience:

  • heart attack symptoms: pain in the chest or pressure on your chest, pain that spreads to your shoulder or jaw, nausea, and sweating.
  • Signs of a Blood Clot: sudden numbness, weakness, vision loss, slurred words, stabbing pain in the chest, coughing blood, or pain or warmth on one or both legs.
  • You may experience nausea, vomiting, or severe abdominal pain that spreads to your back.
  • Jaundice is a yellowing of the skin and eyes.
  • Memory problems, confusion, and unusual behavior
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding and pelvic pain
  • A lump in your breast, or
  • High calcium levels cause confusion, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, and increased thirst or urination.

Topical estrogen can be absorbed by a child's skin if they come into close contact with it. If a child has swollen breasts or nipples, call your doctor.

Some of the common side effects of evamist include:

  • Breast pain
  • headache;
  • Vaginal discharge or itching, changes to your menstrual cycle, or light bleeding
  • Hair loss on the scalp
  • nausea, vomiting, bloating, and stomach cramps.

Warnings

Evamist should not be used if you suffer from any of the conditions listed below: history of heart attacks, strokes, blood clots, bleeding disorders, liver disease, or abnormal vaginal bleeding.Avoid using Evamist while pregnant.Estradiol can increase your risk of developing a condition that may lead to uterine carcinoma. If you experience any unusual bleeding in the vaginal area while taking this medication, call your doctor immediately.Children should not come into contact with the skin where Evamist has been applied. Topical estradiol can be absorbed through the skin. This may cause side effects for children who come into contact with the medicine.This medicine should not be taken to prevent heart disease or stroke. Long-term use may increase the risk of such conditions. Long-term use can also increase the risk of blood clots or breast cancer.

Before you take this drug

Evamist should not be used if:

  • Undiagnosed abnormal vaginal bleeding;
  • Breast, uterine, or hormone-dependent cancers;
  • A history of stroke, heart attack, or blood clots (especially in the lungs or lower body);
  • Liver disease
  • a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder;
  • If you are or could become pregnant,
  • If you've ever experienced an allergic reaction after using estradiol topically,

Estradiol does not prevent heart attacks, strokes, breast cancer, or dementia. In fact, it may increase your chances of developing any of these conditions. Estradiol can also increase the risk of uterine and ovarian cancer. Speak to your doctor about the risks you face.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that Evamist will be safe for you:

  • Unusual vaginal bleeding
  • Heart disease
  • asthma;
  • Epilepsy or another seizure disorder
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Hereditary angioedema
  • endometriosis;
  • A thyroid disorder
  • lupus;
  • Hypercalcemia is a condition where there are high calcium levels in the blood.
  • migraines;
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Risk factors for coronary heart disease include diabetes, smoking, and being overweight. Other risk factors are having a history of coronary heart disease in your family, being over 40 years old, or having had a hysterectomy.

Avoid using Evamist while pregnant.Estradiol may pass through breast milk, causing harm to a nursing infant. Evamist can also reduce breast milk production. Use Evamist only if you are not breastfeeding your baby.

How to take Evamist?

Follow the directions on your prescription label. Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Use this medication only as directed.Avoid exceeding the prescribed dosage or using it for longer than necessary.Estradiol can increase your risk of developing a condition that may lead to uterine carcinoma. To lower this risk, your doctor may prescribe you progesterone. You should report any abnormal vaginal bleeding immediately.You should read all the information provided, including medication guides and instructions.If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist.Only apply Evamist to dry, clean skin that has not been broken. Apply to red, irritated, or inflamed skin. Never apply Evamist to the breasts.

How to use Evamist topical spray:

  • Use the Evamist spray on the skin inside your forearm, just below the elbow. The spray should be used at the same time every day.
  • Before using the Evamist pump for the first time, you will need to prime it. To prime the Evamist pump, keep the cap on, place the bottle upright, and push the pump down three times. Now the pump is ready to use.
  • Hold the pump up and place the cone directly on your skin. Only press the pump once, firmly, and completely. Choose a new spot on the inside of your forearm if your doctor prescribed more than one. Only use the number of sprays that your doctor recommends.
  • Allow the spray to dry for 2 minutes on your skin before dressing. After applying the spray, do not wash your arms for at least 30 minutes.

Do not allow other people to use Evamist. In this case, thoroughly wash the affected area with soap and warm water. Evamist should not be applied to skin that children may touch. If you do come into contact with the skin, immediately wash it off using soap and water. Wear clothing over the treated area to prevent others from getting in contact with it.You should have your doctor check on you regularly (every 3 to six months) to see if this treatment is still appropriate. You should self-examine for lumps in your breasts every month and get regular mammograms when using estradiol.You may have to temporarily stop using Evamist if you are going to be undergoing medical tests, surgery, or bed rest. You should let any doctor or surgeon that treats you know you're using estradiol.Store Evamist away from moisture, heat, and humidity at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you forget to take a dose, use it as soon as possible. Skip the missed dose if you are over 12 hours late. You should not take extra medication to make up for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Breast tenderness may also be present, as well as drowsiness or vaginal bleeding.

What should be avoided?

Avoid getting Evamist in your eyes.If this occurs, rinse your eyes thoroughly with water to alleviate discomfort.

Wait at least 25 minutes after applying Evamist to the skin before applying sunscreen.

The interaction between grapefruit and estradiol can have dangerous consequences. Speak to your physician regarding grapefruit's benefits.

Interaction with other drug

Estradiol topical may interact with other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, herbal products, vitamins, and supplements. Inform your healthcare providers of all medications you are taking, including any new ones.
