What is Emend for Injection?

  • Swelling, pain, redness, burning, blistering, or changes to the skin where chemotherapy medication was injected;
  • A lightheaded sensation, similar to when you're about to pass out.
  • Burning or pain during urination;
  • Low blood cell counts, low blood cell counts, fever chills, fatigue, mouth sores, skin sores, easy bruising, unusual bleeding, pale skin, cold feet and hands, and feeling lightheaded or sluggish.

Common negative side effects from Emend for Injection may include:

  • Fatigue, weakness;
  • Fever;
  • Low blood cell count;
  • Painful urination;
  • Diarrhea, indigestion,
  • Discomfort, numbness, and weakness or pain in your legs or arms.

Warnings

It is not recommended to use Emend for injection if you also use pimozide. Combining these two drugs can result in dangerous or unwelcome side effects.

Before you take this drug 

It is not recommended to use Emend for Injection if you are allergic to Emend for Injection or Aprepitant or are taking another medication called pimozide (Orap). This medication can result in dangerous or unwanted reactions when combined with pimozide.Inform your physician immediately if you have ever experienced:

  • Liver disease.

Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or pregnant.Emend for injection can cause hormone contraceptives to be less effective, such as birth control pills, injections, implanted skin patches, and vaginal rings. You can use barrier birth control to stop the onset of pregnancy: diaphragm, condom, cervical cap, condom, and contraceptive sponge.Continue to use an infant birth control for a minimum of 1 month after every dose of fosaprepitant.

How to take Emend for Injection?

Emend for Injection is administered as an injection into the vein. Your healthcare professional will offer the injection.The first doses of fosaprepitant are usually administered at the beginning of the chemotherapy. It is also administered on the second or third day after chemotherapy.It is also possible to receive additional medications to help prevent vomiting and nausea.Emend for Injection is not intended for long-term use.If you take warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven), you may require additional "INR" or prothrombin time tests following the time you received Emend for Injection.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Emend for Injection can be used for a single dose and does not come with a daily dose schedule.

What happens if I overdose?

Because Emend for Injection is given by a health specialist in a medical setting, it is highly unlikely for an overdose to occur.
