What is Argatroban?
Argatroban inhibits the action of certain substances that clot the blood.Argatroban is a medication used for treating or preventing blood clots in people who suffer from the condition of thrombocytopenia (low amounts of platelets in blood) due to the use of the drug heparin. Argatroban is often prescribed to patients undergoing an operation known as angioplasty (to unblock blocked blood vessels).Argatroban can also be used to treat conditions not mentioned in this guideline.
Side effects of Argatroban

Argatroban may cause serious side effects. Should symptoms present themselves immediately after applying first aid measures such as:
- Bleeding or bruising (nosebleeds, bleeding gums, large menstrual blood);
- Sudden swelling or pain;
- Any bleeding that does not stop;
- A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you're about to pass out.
- The stool is bloody, tarry, and coughing blood; or it is vomit that resembles coffee grounds.
- Urine that appears pink, red, or brown;
- Low heart rate slow heart rate, weak pulse, fainting, or sluggish breathing (breathing may cease);
- Symptoms or signs of symptoms of infection include fever, flu symptoms, throat and mouth ulcers. Rapid heart rate and breath that is shallow.
Common adverse effects of argatroban could include:
- Infection;
- Issues with heart function
- Fever;
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea;
- Lower blood pressure;
- Breathlessness;
- Headache, back pain,
- Chest pain.

Warnings

Before you take this drug
It is not recommended to take argatroban when you have an allergy to it or if you suffer from any significant bleeding as a result of a procedure, injury, or another reason.

- A stomach ulcer or bleeding
- The liver condition;
- A blood clotting or bleeding condition (such as haemophilia);
- Uncontrolled or severe excessive or uncontrolled;
- A spinal tap, epidural anaesthesia,
- Major surgical procedure, especially major surgery (especially eye surgery, brain surgery, and spinal cord surgeries).
Argatroban used in late pregnancy can cause bleeding to the mother or baby during birth.
