Dynacirc

Drug class: calcium channel blockers.
Generic name: isradipine.

In the U.S., Dynacirc has been discontinued. There may be equivalents if generic versions have been approved and made available by the FDA.

What is Dynacirc?

Dynacirc is a calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension. Sometimes, Dynacirc is used in conjunction with a "water pill" or diuretic. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Dynacirc.

Side effects of Dynacirc

If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: difficulty breathing, hives or swelling on lips, face, tongue or throat - seek medical advice immediately!

Dynacirc may cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you could pass out.

  • Symptoms that indicate when medical help should be sought include your heart pounding rapidly or chest tightness. These are indicators that medical advice needs to be sought immediately.

  • Flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly sensation);

  • Tiredness;

  • Heart problems: swelling, rapid weight gain, feeling of shortness of breath

Some of the side effects that Dynacirc can cause include:

  • Flushing;

  • Headache, dizziness;

  • Swelling;

  • Fast heartbeats;

  • Upset stomach.

There may be other side effects. Call your doctor immediately if experiencing side effects; alternatively, the FDA can be reached at 1-800-FDA-1088 in order to report these.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to Dynacirc, then it is best not to use it.

Notify your doctor of any of the following issues:

  • Congestive heart failure;

  • Liver disease

  • Kidney disease is a serious condition.

Dynacirc may have a greater effect on older adults. Dynacirc is not known to harm unborn babies. Inform your physician immediately if you are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, or contemplating becoming pregnant. If you are using Dynacirc, it is not recommended that you breastfeed.

How to take Dynacirc?

Read and follow all instructions or guides included with your medication, such as dosing guides. Although a physician may alter its dosage, you must always take it exactly as prescribed. Maintain a regular blood pressure check.Your blood pressure may improve in 2 to 4 weeks. Even if you feel well, take your medication exactly as prescribed. Because high blood pressure often has no symptoms associated with it, medication could become necessary over the lifetime. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. When not in use, keep the bottle tightly shut. You should always follow the instructions on your medication and be sure to read any guides that you get. You should not stop taking or change the dose of your medication without consulting your doctor.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for your next dose, skip the missed one.Never take two doses of any medication at the same time. This could potentially increase side effects.

What happens if I overdose?

Dial 1-800-222-1222 immediately in case of poisoning and seek emergency medical assistance if symptoms appear. Overdose symptoms include rapid heartbeats, dizziness, and warmth in the arms and legs.

What should be avoided?

You may feel dizzy if you get up too quickly from a seated or lying position. Before becoming acquainted with how Dynacirc affects you, it would be prudent to refrain from driving or engaging in potentially hazardous activities - it might render you incapable of reacting properly and may impair your judgement and response time.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your physician of any other medications you are currently taking, including:

  • Cimetidine (Tagamet);

  • Fentanyl;

  • Rifampin.
