What is Desonide topical?

Desonide, a type of steroid, helps to reduce inflammation. The topical desonide (for the face) can be used to relieve itching and inflammation caused by acne or other conditions of the skin. Desonide topical can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of Desonide topical

If you exhibit symptoms of an allergy - difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in lips, cheeks, throat or tongue - contact a healthcare provider immediately for treatment.

Desonide can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Skin conditions are worsening;
  • Redness, heat, swelling, oozing, or severe irritation on any skin treated
  • Blurred vision, pain in the eyes, or seeing halos around lights
  • Dry mouth; fruity breath smell
  • Possible signs that you have absorbed desonide through the skin include: weight gain, especially in the face, upper back, and torso; slow wound healing. Other symptoms may include muscle weakness, nausea, or diarrhea.

Children's growth can be affected by steroids. If your child's growth isn't normal while taking this medication, tell your doctor.

Desonide topical side effects may include:

  • The skin may sting or burn after treatment.
  • Skin irritation is characterized by redness, itching, or hardening.
  • Dry, oily, or scaly skin
  • You may experience swelling in your feet or hands.
  • Acne, stretch marks;
  • Redness around the hair follicles.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to desonide, then it is best not to use this product.

If you've ever:

  • Any type of skin infection
  • Diabetes;
  • A skin reaction after taking steroid medication

The desonide topical may harm an unborn child. Inform your doctor that you're pregnant. Breastfeeding may be unsafe while taking this medication. Ask your physician whether there are any risks involved. Avoid areas where the mouth of a baby may be in contact with desonide if you apply it to your chest. This medicine should not be given to children without consulting a doctor. This medicine is only for adults over 18 years old. Children may experience more side effects due to absorption through their skin than with adults.

How to take Desonide topical?

Read and follow all instructions or guides provided with your medication.Follow the directions on your prescription label. Take it only by mouth. Only apply topical medicines to the skin. If this medication gets into your mouth or eyes, rinse with water. Before each use, shake the lotion. After using desonide, wash your hands, except if you're using it to treat your skin. Rub a thin layer on the affected skin. You should not use this medication to cover a wide area of the skin unless you have been told by your doctor. Cover the area of skin that has been treated only if your doctor says so. The amount of medicine that is absorbed by your skin can be increased if you cover the treated area. This may have harmful side effects. Use only loose-fitting or plastic diapers if you're treating your diaper area.

The medicine should only be used for a short time (between 2 and 4 weeks). Dosage instructions should be followed very closely by your doctor. Once your symptoms have been controlled, you should discontinue using the medication. If your symptoms continue or worsen, don't wait - reach out immediately to a physician! Keep the bottle or tube at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. When not in use, keep the tube or bottle tightly closed.

Usual Adult Dose for Dermatitis:

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are close to your next dose, skip the missed one. Never apply two doses at once.

What happens if I overdose?

If anyone accidentally swallows the medicine, seek emergency medical care or contact the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222. Desonide can cause thinning of the skin or bruising. It may also lead to changes in your body's fat, especially in areas like your neck, face, waist, or back. Other side effects include increased facial hair or acne, menstrual issues, impotence, or a loss of sexual interest.

What should be avoided?

Do not get desonide topical into your nose, eyes, or mouth. Use desonide only after consulting your physician to diagnose any skin conditions.

Interaction with other drug

Other drugs that you take are unlikely to affect the medicine applied to your skin. Many drugs interact. Inform your health care providers of all the medicines that you take, including prescription medicines and over-the-counter medications.
