What is Xigduo XR?

Xigduo extended-release tablets include a mix of dapagliflozin and metformin. Warnings

Before you take this drug

It is not recommended to use the XigduoXR if you're sensitive to dapagliflozin (Farxiga) or metformin or are suffering from:

  • Serious kidney condition (or if you're dialysis-dependent)
  • Diabetes, ketoacidosis, and metabolic acidosis (call your doctor to seek treatment).

To ensure that Xigduo XR is safe for you, consult your physician, whether you've ever:

  • Kidney or liver disease;
  • Lower blood pressure;
  • A urine infection or urinary tract problem;
  • Heart conditions heart problems, low blood pressure
  • Problems with your pancreas, which includes surgery for pancreas problems;
  • If you're on a diet low in salt.

It is possible to be diagnosed with an illness called lactic acidosis. This is an extremely dangerous accumulation of lactic acid in your blood. How to take Xigduo XR?

Use Xigduo XR extended-release tablets exactly as directed by your physician. Follow the directions on the prescription label and study all medication guides or instruction sheets. The doctor might alter your dosage.

Your doctor might run kidney function tests before you begin treatment with Xigduo XR.Eat with food to avoid an upset stomach.Suck the tablet up whole. Don't chew, crush, or break the extended-release tablet.

It is possible that you have insufficient levels of blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and feel extremely hungry, dizzy, angry, and anxious. You may also feel confused, disoriented, or even shaky. To treat hypoglycemia quickly, consume or drink a rapid-acting sugar source (fruit juice crackers, hard candy, raisins, or other non-diet drinks).The doctor might prescribe the glucagon injection kit in the event that you suffer from severe hypoglycemia. Make sure your family or friends are aware of how to administer the injection in an emergency.

Be on the lookout for indications of high levels of blood sugar (hyperglycemia), such as an increase in thirst or increased urination.The levels of blood sugar are altered due to stress or illness, surgical procedures, exercise, alcohol consumption, or eating infrequently. Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose of Xigduo XR for Diabetes Type 2:

Individually adjust doses based on the current treatment regimen.
Maintain dose: Drink orally, once per day. Gradually increase depending on the effectiveness and tolerability.
Maximum dose: Dapagliflozin 10 mg/metformin 2000 mg per day
Comments:
Patients who are taking a dose at night of metformin XR must avoid their last dose prior to taking this medication; take this medication once a day in the morning with breakfast.
If used in conjunction with insulin and insulin secretagogue, smaller doses of insulin and insulin secretagogue could be considered to decrease the risk of hypoglycemia.
Use: As an add-on to exercise and diet to help improve the control of glycemic levels in individuals suffering from the condition of type 2 diabetes, when treatments with Xigduo XR are appropriate.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Do the medication (with food) immediately if you are able, but don't take your missed dose in case you are nearing the time to take the next dose. Don't take two doses at a time.

What happens if I overdose?

For medical emergencies, seek immediate medical attention, contact emergency medical attention, or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222. There is a possibility that you are suffering from a severe drop in glucose levels (extreme weakness and nausea, tremors or nausea, sweating, confusion, difficulty speaking, rapid heartbeats, or seizures).

What should be avoided?

Do not drink alcohol. It reduces blood sugar levels and increases the chance of contracting lactic acidosis.

Be careful not to get up too fast from a lying or sitting position. You could get dizzy.

Side effects of Xigduo XR

  • Minimal or no urination

  • Lactic acidosis: atypical muscle pain, difficulty breathing, nausea, stomach pain or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, feeling cold, or feeling extremely fatigued or weak

Some side effects are more likely to occur in older adults.

The most common Xigduo XR side effects may include:

  • Genital infections;
  • Headache;
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;
  • Runny or stuffy nasal passages; sore throat

Interaction with other drugs

Discuss with your doctor all other medicines you take, including:

  • Digoxin (digitalis, lanoxin);
  • Rifampin;
  • Phenytoin;
  • Diuretic, also known as a "water pill";
  • Insulin, or other oral diabetes medications, and
  • There are many nsaid (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines): aspirin, ibuprofen (advil, motrin), naproxen (aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac (also known as indomethacin), diclofenac, diclofenac, and many more.
