Daypro

Generic name: oxaprozin [ox-a-PROE-zin]
Class of drugs: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

What is Daypro?

Daypro, a nonsteroidal NSAID (nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug), is prescribed to adults for pain and inflammation due to osteoarthritis. The medicine can also be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in children aged at least six years. Daypro can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of Daypro

If you experience symptoms of an allergy (hives or swelling, or runny or stuffy nose, difficulty breathing or wheezing), or severe skin reactions (fever or sore throat with burning eyes or skin, or skin pain or blistering or peeling with red or purple skin), seek emergency medical attention.Should any of these symptoms develop, seek emergency medical assistance immediately.

Daypro may cause serious side effects. Call your doctor immediately if:

  • A skin rash is a rash on the body, regardless of how mild it may be.
  • Heart issues: swelling, rapid weight gain and shortness of breath
  • Signs of stomach bleeding include bloody stools or bloody vomit.
  • Liver problems: nausea; itching; fatigue; flu-like symptoms; and loss of appetite. Dark urine or clay-colored stools. Jaundice.
  • If you have kidney disease, it can cause swelling of your ankles or feet, fatigue, or feeling short of breath.
  • Low red blood cells (anemia): pale skin, unusual fatigue, feeling lightheaded or short-of-breath, cold fingers and toes

Daypro can cause the following side effects:

  • Nausea, upset stomach;
  • Diarrhea, constipation,

Warnings

Daypro may increase the risk of a fatal stroke or heart attack. Daypro should not be used before or immediately after a heart bypass operation. The medicine can also cause fatal stomach and intestinal bleeding.

Before you take this drug

Daypro may increase the risk of a fatal stroke or heart attack, even when you have no risk factors. This medicine should not be used before or immediately after cardiac bypass surgery.

It is possible that Daypro can also lead to fatal stomach and intestinal bleeding. You may not be aware of these conditions if you use this medication, particularly if you're older.

Daypro should not be used if:

  • Active bleeding of the stomach or intestines
  • A history of an asthma attack or a severe allergic reaction following the use of aspirin or an NSAID

If you've ever:

  • Heart Disease can result from high blood pressure, cholesterol levels that exceed recommended limits, diabetes or smoking cigarettes.
  • Heart attack, stroke or blood clot. Three deadly events.
  • Stomach ulcers and bleeding
  • Asthma;
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Fluid retention.

Do not take Daypro if you are pregnant unless you have been told to by your doctor. NSAIDs can lead to serious kidney or heart problems for the baby, as well as complications during pregnancy. Breastfeeding may be unsafe while taking this medication. You should consult your physician about the risks. Daypro cannot be used by children under the age of 6.

How to take Daypro?

Read all instructions on the label of your medication and follow all directions. Your doctor might occasionally adjust your dosage. You should use the lowest effective dose to treat your condition. The Daypro dosage is based on body weight, especially in adolescents and children. Your dose needs may change if you gain or lose weight. You may require frequent medical testing if you have been using Daypro for a long time. Keep Daypro away from heat, moisture, and sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly shut when not being used, to preserve its integrity.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If it is almost time for another dose, skip this missed one and wait. If not, continue taking your next scheduled medication dose as scheduled.Never take more than one dose at a time.

What should be avoided?

Avoid alcohol. Avoid alcohol. Take Daypro with caution if you take aspirin. These medicines may have ingredients that are similar to Daypro, such as aspirin or Ibuprofen. Ketoprofen and Naproxen Daypro can cause you to burn faster. Avoid tanning or sunlight. When you're outdoors, wear protective clothing and use sunblock with SPF 30 or greater.

Interaction with other drug

Before using Daypro, ask your doctor if you are taking an antidepressant. Taking some antidepressants along with an NSAID can cause you to bruise or bleed more easily.

Inform your physician of all medications taken, including:

  • Glyburide;
  • Lithium;
  • Methotrexate;
  • Pemetrexed;
  • A blood thinner is warfarin coumadin jantoven;
  • Heart or blood pressure medications, such as diuretics or "water pills,"
  • Steroid medicine (such as prednisone).
