Metadate ER

What is Metadate Er?

Metadate ER is a stimulant medication used for treating attention deficit disorder ( ADD), hyperactivity (ADHD), and narcolepsy. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Metadate ER.

Side effects of Metadate ER

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue

Metadate ER can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Signs of heart disease include chest pain, difficulty breathing, and feeling as if you could pass out.
  • Psychotic features may include hallucinations (seeing or hearing things that aren't real), new behavior problems, aggression, hostility or paranoia;
  • Signs of circulatory problems include numbness or pain in the fingers and toes or a cold sensation, unresolved injuries, or changes in skin color (pale, blue, or red appearance).
  • Penis erections that are painful or last 4 hours or more

Serotonin syndrome symptoms include: hallucinations and agitation; fever; shivering or sweating; a fast heartbeat; stiff muscles; twitching or jerking movements; loss of coordination; as well as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Metadate ER can affect growth in children. It may be necessary to check your child's weight and height frequently. If your child's growth isn't normal, tell your doctor.

Metadate ER can cause the following side effects:

  • Increased blood pressure and sweating
  • Mood changes, feeling anxious or irritable;
  • Fast heartbeats, or heart flutters;
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss
  • Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, or
  • Headache, dizziness.

Warnings

Stimulants can cause strokes, heart attacks, and sudden deaths in those with heart problems, high blood pressure, or heart defects. Metadate ER can cause psychosis, especially if there is a previous history of mental illness or bipolar disorder. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately: Signs of heart problems include chest pain, lightheadedness, or feeling short of breath. Signs of psychosis include paranoia, aggressive behavior, or seeing or hearing something that is not real. Metadate ER can be addictive.Inform your physician of any history of drug or alcohol abuse.Store the medicine in a place where other people cannot reach it.

Before you take this drug

Metadate ER should not be used if:

  • Glaucoma;
  • Severe high blood pressure, or heart problems;
  • Overactive thyroid
  • A personal or familial history of tourette syndrome or tics
  • Severe anxiety, tension, or agitation. (stimulant medicines can make the symptoms worse.

Certain stimulants can cause strokes, heart attacks, or sudden deaths in some people. Inform your doctor about:

  • Heart problems or a congenital heart defect;
  • High blood pressure
  • Have a family history of cardiac disease or sudden deaths.

Metadate er should not be taken within 14 days after taking mao inhibitors such as isocarboxazid or linezolid as it could result in dangerous drug interactions. There are various mao inhibitors such as these. Inform your doctor of any other medications you are taking, such as opioids, herbs or medicines for mental illnesses, parkinson’s disease, or migraine headaches. A serious serotonin-related condition can be caused by an interaction between metadate er and other drugs.

If you have ever experienced:

  • Depression, bipolar disorders, psychosis, or thoughts of suicide are all examples.
  • Blood circulation problems of the feet or hands;
  • Drug addiction, or alcoholism
  • Adhansia can cause an allergy, such as to aspirin and yellow food dye.

Tell your doctor about any of the following:

  • Problems with the stomach or intestines, as well as problems in the esophagus;
  • Seizures, epilepsy, or an abnormal brain wave test (EEG).

If you become dependent on Metadate during your pregnancy, it can lead to premature births or births with low weight. Inform your doctor that you plan to get pregnant. Your name could be added to a registry if you're pregnant in order to monitor the effect of methylphenidate. A doctor can tell you if breastfeeding is possible while taking this medication. Tell your doctor, if breastfeeding, if the child shows signs such as sleep issues, agitation, or reduced weight. No one under the age of 6 is allowed to use this product.

How to take Metadate ER?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as it is prescribed. It is possible that Metadate ER can become habit-forming. Abusing the drug can lead to addiction, death, and overdose. Store it in a place where other people cannot reach it. It is illegal to sell or give away the medicine. If you change the brand, strength, or form of a medicine, your dose requirements may be different. Use only the medication prescribed by your doctor to avoid making mistakes. The majority of brands are used 1 to 2 times per day. Jornay PM should only be taken between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. Metadate ER can be taken with or without eating, as long as you take it in the same manner each time. Do not chew or crush the extended-release tablet or capsule. Open the capsule and combine it with a soft food like applesauce or pudding. The mixture should be swallowed immediately without chewing.

The chewable tablet must be chewed before it can be swallowed. Use the measuring tool provided to measure liquid medicines (not your kitchen spoon). Do not chew the tablet. Allow it to dissolve completely in your mouth. Inform your doctor of any planned surgery. Counseling or other treatment options may be included in your treatment. Regularly, your doctor should check on you. You may need your heart rate and blood pressure checked frequently. Keep tightly sealed at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Store your medication in an area where it cannot be misused. Don't keep any leftover medication. Your pharmacist can tell you about drug return programs. In a plastic bag, you can mix leftover medication with coffee or cat litter.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for the next dose, skip the missed one. Never take more than one dose at a time.

What happens if I overdose?

Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. A Metadate ER overdose could prove fatal. The symptoms of an overdose may include: nausea, dryness in the mouth, vomiting or diarrhea; anxiety, restlessness, agitation and tremors; muscle twitches or rapid breathing; confusion, hallucinations or confusional states; dilated pupils or muscular pain. Other signs can be fever, sweating, or headaches.

What should be avoided?

Do not drink alcohol. Do not drive or engage in hazardous activities until you have experienced the effects of Metadate ER. Your reactions may not be appropriate in an emergency situation.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking, including:

  • A blood thinner: Warfarin Coumadin Jantoven
  • Blood pressure medications
  • Antidepressants are a type of medication.
  • Seizure medication;
  • Decongestants are found in cold and allergy medicines.
