What is Daridorexant?

Daridorexant can be used to treat adults who are having difficulty falling or staying asleep (insomnia). Daridorexant can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Daridorexant

If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing or swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat. Seek medical assistance immediately. You should tell your doctor immediately if you notice any sudden or new changes in mood, behavior, or thoughts. This includes new or worse depressive symptoms. Daridorexant can cause people to forget activities such as driving, eating, walking, making phone calls, or even having a fling. If this happens, tell your doctor. If you experience hallucinations or are unable to move for several minutes, call your doctor immediately.

Some of the common side effects associated with daridorexant include:

  • Headache
  • Drowsiness.

Warnings

Daridorexant can cause suicidal thoughts in some people. If you notice any sudden changes in your mood, behavior, or thoughts of suicide, tell your doctor immediately. Daridorexant can cause people to forget activities such as driving, eating, walking, making telephone calls, or having sex. If this happens, tell your doctor.

Before you take this drug

If you are prone to falling asleep frequently (narcolepsy), then daridorexant is not for you.

Inform your physician of any of the following issues:

  • Mental illness, depression, or suicidal ideas;
  • Addiction to alcohol or drugs;
  • A condition known as cataplexy (sudden muscle weakness)
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Sleep apnea (breathing stops while sleeping);
  • Liver problems are a serious condition.

Daridorexant may harm an unborn child. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or considering becoming pregnant. You may find your name on a registry for pregnant women to track the effects daridorexant has on the baby. Ask your doctor if you can safely breastfeed while taking daridorexant.

How to take Daridorexant?

Read all instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all directions. Follow the directions on the label. If you are feeling a greater urge to take this medicine, tell your doctor. Daridorexant can be addictive. Abusing the drug can lead to addiction, death, or overdose. Store it in a place where others cannot reach it.Selling or giving away such medication is illegal. Only once a night, take daridorexant for 30 minutes before bedtime. Take daridorexant only if you are able to stay in bed for at least seven hours before getting up. This medicine can take longer to start working if daridorexant is taken right after or with a meal. If your sleep disorder worsens within seven to ten days or if it does not improve, call your doctor. Keep your medication in a safe place so that no one else can misuse it. Storing in an environment free from moisture and heat at room temperature.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Insomnia:

Recommended dosage: 25–50 mg orally once a night.
Maximum dose: 50 mg
Comments:
Take no more than one capsule per night, within 30 minutes after going to sleep and at least seven hours before waking up.
If insomnia persists after 7–10 days of treatment, it may be a sign of a primary medical or psychiatric illness. This should be evaluated.
Adults with insomnia can be treated using this treatment.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you regularly take daridorexant, you should take the medicine as quickly as possible. Take no more than one dosage on the same day. If you are not able to remain in bed for 7 hours or more after the missed dosage, skip the missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

Don't drink alcohol. Side effects and death can occur. You should avoid driving or other hazardous activities until you are sure of how daridorexant affects you. You may be unable to react properly.

Interaction with other drug

It is sometimes not safe to take certain medications at the same time. Some drugs may affect the blood levels of drugs that you are taking, which can increase side effects and make them less effective. Ask your doctor before taking an opioid medication, a sleeping pill, a muscle relaxer, or medicine for a data-type="auto"  Before taking opioids, sleeping pills, muscle relaxers, or medications for anxiety or seizures, consult your doctor. Daridorexant may be affected by other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the other medications you take.
