What is D.H.E. 45?

D.H.E. The ergot alkaloid 45 can be used as a treatment for migraines or cluster headaches. D.H.E. The 45-minute rule will not reduce headaches. The medicine should not be used for daily tension headaches. D.H.E. This medication guide does not list all possible uses for 45.

Side effects of D.H.E. 45

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue

D.H.E. The 45 can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Signs of blood clots: sudden numbness, weakness, or problems speaking or seeing on one side, or pain in the leg.
  • Numbness in the fingers and toes
  • Muscle pain in your arms or legs
  • Leg weakness;
  • Fast or slow heartbeats
  • Shortness of breath, chest tightness, or pain
  • Itching or swelling
  • Stomach cramps and diarrhea, which may be bloody.
  • Severe headache
  • You may notice discoloration of the skin on your feet or hands.

D.H.E. 45 can cause the following side effects:

  • Headache, dizziness, anxiety;
  • Diarrhea;
  • Numbness, tingling, burning pain;
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Increased sweating, rash
  • Flushing (a sudden feeling of warmth, redness, or tingling)

There may be other side effects.Call your physician if experiencing side effects; otherwise call the FDA's reporting line at 1-800-FDA-1088 to report them.

Warnings

Inform your doctor of all the other medications you are taking. Certain drugs shouldn't be taken with D.H.E. 45.

Before you take this drug

D.H.E. should be avoided. You should not use D.H.E. if:

  • Heart Disease; Chest Pain (Angina); Coronary Artery Disease; A History of a Heart Attack
  • Peripheral arterial disease is a circulation problem.
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Sepsis is a serious reaction to infection.
  • Severe liver or kidney disease
  • If you have an allergy to D.H.E. If you are allergic to D.H.E.
  • If you've had vascular surgery,

Certain drugs shouldn't be taken with D.H.E. 45. If you use the following:

  • An antibiotic, such as clarithromycin and erythromycin.
  • Antifungal medicines such as israconazole and ketoconazole
  • Antiviral medication for HIV and hepatitis C

If you've ever:

  • Blood circulation issues in the arms, legs, or feet
  • Shortness of breath, chest pain
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Risk factors for coronary heart disease include high blood pressure, diabetes, menopause, and smoking. Other risk factors are family history, obesity, age over 40, and being a male.

D.H.E. The blood flow to the uterus can be affected by 45 Inform your doctor of any pregnancy or plans to get pregnant. D.H.E. 45 if you are pregnant. You should not breastfeed for 3 days following your last dose of this medication. Speak to your doctor regarding the best ways to feed your child.

How to take D.H.E. 45?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all the directions. Follow the directions on your prescription label. D.H.E. The 45-mm injection is given under the skin or in a muscle. A healthcare provider may inject this medicine into a vein. You should inject yourself as soon as possible after you experience headache symptoms or when the attack begins. Prepare an injection when it's time to give it. Be sure to carefully read and follow all instructions, should any arise; should any come up, contact either your pharmacist or physician immediately for advice or consultation. You can use two additional injections, spaced 1 hour apart. This will help you get rid of your headache. If you continue to have headaches after three injections, call your doctor. You can use this medicine if you get another headache the next day. It is okay to do so if it has been at least six hours since you last used the medication. Use no more than 3 injections per 24 hours, or 6 in a week. Your heart's function may require medical testing. Keep away from heat and moisture. Use before the date of expiration. Never reuse a syringe or needle. Put them into a "sharps container" that is puncture-proof and follow local or state laws. Avoid putting them in the reach of pets and children.

What happens if I miss the dose?

D.H.E. When needed, 45 can be used. You can skip any dose you miss if your schedule is set. Never use more than one dose at a time. Use no more than three injections a day or six injections a week.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line immediately on 1-800-222-1222, or seek emergency medical attention if an overdose has taken place, which could even prove fatal.

What should be avoided?

D.H.E. Do not take 45 in the 24 hours prior to or following the use of another headache medication. It includes any other ergot medication (e.g., methylergonovine, ergotamine) or "triptan medicine" (e.g., almotriptan, eletriptan). Grapefruit can interact with D.H.E. Grapefruit can cause adverse effects. Avoid consuming grapefruit products.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your doctor of all the medications you are taking. D.H.E. can be affected by many drugs. 45, especially:

  • Heart or blood pressure medications;
  • Nicotine gums or patches
  • Antidepressants are a type of medication.
  • Medicine to treat infections.
