What is Avanafil?

Avanafil is used to treat erectile dysfunction (impotence).Avanafil should not be administered to women or children under any circumstance.Avanafil may also be taken for uses not specified herein. Please consult this medication guide before using Avanafil for anything other than its intended purposes.

Side effects of Avanafil

Be wary if you experience signs of an allergic reaction such as hives; difficulty breathing; facial, lip, tongue or throat swelling and redness. Seek emergency medical assistance immediately!Stop taking Avanafil immediately if you experience sudden vision loss and seek emergency medical assistance immediately.If during sexual activity you experience dizziness or nausea as well as chest, arm, neck or jaw pain or sensations like tingling or numbness that impair performance - stop immediately and call your physician immediately for treatment. You could be having a serious side effect from avanafil.

Avanafil may cause serious side effects. Stop taking Avanafil immediately, and contact your physician as soon as possible if:

  • Vision changes, sudden vision loss;
  • Ringing in your ears, or sudden hearing loss;
  • Pain, swelling, warmth or redness is present in either of the legs;
  • Shortness of breath; swelling in your hands or feet;
  • A light-headed feeling, like you might pass out;
  • An uncomfortable or lasting for more than 4 hours penis erection.

Common side effects of avanafil may include:

  • Headache;
  • Flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling);
  • Cold symptoms such as runny or stuffy nose, sore throat,
  • Back pain.

Warnings

Combining Avanafil with other medications may cause a rapid and significant drop in blood pressure. Do not take avanafil if you also take riociguat (Adempas) or a nitrate drug such as nitroglycerin.Stop taking Avanafil immediately if you experience sudden vision loss and seek medical assistance immediately.Contact your physician immediately if the pain persists or lasts more than four hours; an prolonged erection, known as "priapism", could damage the penis.

Prior to using this drug

You should not take avanafil if you are allergic to it,:

  • If you take medication to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, such as Riociguat (Adempas).

Do not take Avanafil while also taking a nitrate drug for chest or heart conditions. This includes nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate, and isosorbide mononitrate. Nitrates are also found in some recreational drugs, such as amyl nitrate or nitrite ("poppers"). Combining Avanafil with Nitrate medicines may cause an unexpected and significant drop in blood pressure.

Tell your doctor immediately if you ever experienced:

  • Heart failure;
  • Angina (chest pain)
  • A heart rhythm disorder;
  • A heart attack or stroke;
  • Heart surgery;
  • Severe or uncontrolled high blood pressure;
  • Low blood pressure;
  • Retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye);
  • Hearing or vision problems, or vision loss;
  • Bleeding problems;
  • A blood cell disorder such as sickle cell anaemia, multiple myeloma, or leukaemia;
  • A stomach ulcer;
  • Liver disease; kidney disease (or dialysis);
  • Priapism (an erection that causes pain or lasts more than four hours;) can occur.
  • A physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease);
  • Have you been told for health reasons not to engage in sexual interplay

Avanafil can decrease blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye, causing sudden vision loss. This has occurred among a small percentage of those taking sildenafil (Viagra) or similar drugs to Avanafil.Most of these people also had heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain pre-existing eye problems, including those who smoked or were over 50 years old. Unconfirmed reports point towards Avanafil as being responsible for vision loss.Avanafil is for use only by men. No data exists to demonstrate whether Avanafil would cause harm if taken during gestation or breast-feeding by women.

How do I take Avanafil?

Follow all instructions outlined on your prescription label and read any medication guides or instruction sheets that accompany it.. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose. Use the medicine exactly as directed.Avanafil can be taken either with or without food.Avanafil should only be taken when necessary - about 15-30 minutes prior to sexual activity.Follow your doctor's instructions.Avanafil can assist in producing an erection when sexual stimulation takes place; however, taking one pill alone will not cause one to occur.Do not take more than one dose of Avanafil per day.Allow 24 hours to pass between doses.Call your doctor immediately or seek emergency care if the pain persists past four hours; prolonged erections (priapism) have the potential to harm penis tissue and could result in penis rupture.Store at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light.

Info on dosage

Usual Adult Dose for Erectile Dysfunction:

Initial dose: 100 mg taken orally as needed approximately 30 minutes prior to sexual activity.Maintenance dose of 50 to 200 mg orally every 30 minutes before sexual activity, taken orally as needed.Maximum recommended daily oral dose for adults should not exceed 200 mg orally once.
Comments:
Should be administered the lowest effective dosage.Sexual stimulation is required as part of treatment to produce desired results.Use: Treatment of erectile dysfunction

What happens if I miss the dose?

Since avanafil is used as needed, you are not likely to be on a dosing schedule.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.

Aviod this

Consumption of alcohol may intensify some side effects associated with Avanafil. Avoid drinking more than three alcoholic beverages while you are taking Avanafil.Grapefruit may interact with Avanafil and cause unwanted side effects.Avoid the use of grapefruit products.This medication will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV and AIDS. Condom use is the best way to shield oneself against sexually transmitted diseases and protect themselves against them.

Interaction with other drug

Do not combine Avanafil with similar medicines such as Viagra, Tadalafil (Cialis), Levitra or Staxyn (also marketed under brand names Adcirca or Revatio). Doing so could increase your risk for pulmonary arterial hypertension and may increase side effects significantly.

Inform your physician of any and all medicines taken, especially:

  • All medications you are currently taking for erectile dysfunction:
  • An antibiotic—clarithromycin, erythromycin, telithromycin, and others;
  • Antifungal medicine—itraconazole, ketoconazole, and others;
  • Drugs to treat high blood pressure or a prostate disorder—alfuzosin, doxazosin, prazosin, silodosin, terazosin, tamsulosin, and others;
  • Hepatitis C medication—boceprevir or telaprevir;
  • HIV/AIDS medications: atazanavir, indinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir and others are available.
