What is Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole?

Amoxicillin and clarithromycin are antibiotics that fight bacteria within the body. Omeprazole decreases the amount of acid created by the stomach.Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and Omeprazole (Omeclamox-Pak) are mixture medicines that are designed to treat stomach ulcers due to an infection caused by Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori).Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole can also be utilised for reasons not covered in this guideline.

Side effects of Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole

Contact emergency medical assistance. If you notice symptoms or warning signs of an allergic response (hives or breathing difficulties and swelling in your throat or face) or an extreme skin reaction (fever or burning eyes, sore throat, or skin rashes), the skin is red or purple and blisters and peels.

Clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and omeprazole can result in serious adverse effects. Consult your physician immediately if you experience:

  • Extreme stomach pains; diarrhoea that is bloody or watery (even if it's several months after your previous dose);
  • Heartbeats that are fast or rapid, a fluttering chest, shortness of breath, and a sudden feeling of dizziness (like you're going to faint);
  • Liver issues: stomach pains, itching, lack of appetite, and dark urine jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin);
  • Kidney issues: nausea, vomiting, feeling unwell, fever, painful urination, or pain in your back or lower back
  • The symptoms are either getting worse or new to lupus, or worsening symptoms of lupus joints pain and a skin eruption on your cheeks or arms that aggravates in the sun
  • Symptoms of a new infection: fever, cough, fatigue, difficulty breathing, sores or white patches on your throat or mouth, stomach pain, vomiting, and neck pain sensitization to light.

Risky side effects are more common in older people.The use of clarithromycin, amoxicillin, and omeprazole for a long time could result in stomach tumours known as fundic gland polyps. Discuss this possibility with your physician.

Common adverse reactions to amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole could be:

  • Diarrhoea;
  • Headache
  • Unusual or unpleasant taste inside your mouth.

Warnings

Inform your doctor about the other medications you take. Certain drugs shouldn't be taken with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, or omeprazole.

Prior to use this drug

Amoxicillin is not recommended for use with clarithromycin and omeprazole if you are allergic to amoxicillin (Amoxil) or clarithromycin (Biaxin), as well as omeprazole (Prevacid), or if:

  • You are sensitive and allergic to azithromycin (Zithromax Z-Pak), erythromycin, and telithromycin.
  • You are allergic to albendazole or mebendazole.
  • If you've experienced an extreme reaction to a penicillin antibiotic, such as ampicillin, Augmentin, Principen, Timentin, or Trimox, and other medications or
  • You have experienced a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic like cefdinir, the cefuroxime, cefprozil, and cephalexin Duricef, Omnicef Cefzil Keflex, Spectracef, and many more.

Certain drugs shouldn't be taken with Omeclamox-Pak. If you take any of these medications with amoxicillin, clarithromycin, or omeprazole, it may result in a serious side effect for your heart.

  • Ergotamine;
  • Dihydroergotamine;
  • Pimozide.

Talk to your physician in the event that you've had:

  • The liver condition;
  • Kidney disease;
  • Allergies;
  • Myasthenia gravis;

It is possible that you are more likely to suffer broken bones if you are taking this medication for a long time or more than once per day. Talk with your doctor regarding ways to maintain your bones' health.could harm a newborn baby. Use birth control and inform your doctor if you are pregnant.Amoxicillin could alter the effectiveness of birth pills by making birth less efficient. Talk to your doctor about alternative birth control options, such as implants, injections, a skin patch, a vaginal ring condom, a diaphragm cervical cap, or a contraceptive sponge.Don't breastfeed while taking this medication. If you use an infant pump during this time, remove the milk and don't give it to your child.Not authorised to be used by anyone less than 18 years old.

How to take Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and omeprazole?

Follow the instructions on your prescription label, and review all medication guides and instructions. Make sure you use the medicine precisely as directed.Every dose of the combination medicine includes four tablets (3 capsules and one tablet). Take all four pills twice each day prior to eating, unless your physician tells you to take a different regimen.Suck each pill whole, and don't crush, chew, or break it. You can also crack it.Continue to take this medication even if your symptoms rapidly get better. Not taking your doses regularly can make your condition immune to medications. Omeclamox-Pak does not treat the symptoms of a viral disease (the flu or a common cold).The medicine could influence the outcome of specific tests. Inform any physician who is treating patients that you're using Omeclamox-Pak.Keep the items at room temperature and away from heat, humidity, and light.Amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and Omeprazole dosing instructions

Usual Adult Dose for Duodenal Ulcer:

Amoxicillin 500 mg, cleithromycin 500 mg, and omeprazole 20 mg, taken orally twice every day
Time of treatment: 10 days
Comments:
Doses should be administered in the morning and at night, prior to eating meals.
An additional eighteen days' treatment using 20 mg of omeprazole orally twice every day is recommended for patients suffering from ulcers at the time of starting treatment.
Use: Elimination of Helicobacter pylori in patients suffering from an actively duodenal ulcer with a previous history of duodenal ulcer diseases

Usual adult dose for Helicobacter pylori infection:

Amoxicillin 500 mg, Clarithromycin 500 mg, and Omeprazole 20 mg, taken orally twice every day
The duration of treatment Duration of therapy: 10 days
Comments:
Doses should be administered each morning and evening prior to eating meals.
An additional eighteen days' treatment using omeprazole 20 mg taken orally twice every day is recommended for patients with ulcers upon beginning treatment.
Use: Elimination of Helicobacter pylori in patients who have active duodenal ulcers or an antecedent duodenal ulcer disease

What happens if I miss the dose?

You should take the medication as quickly as you are able, but avoid any missed doses if it's close to the time of the next dose. Don't have two doses at one time.

What happens if I overdose?

Get medical attention in an emergency or contact the poison help line at 1-800-222-1222.

What should be avoided?

The use of antibiotics can cause diarrhea. Consult your physician if you suffer from diarrhoea that is fluid or bloody.

Interaction with other drugs

The gout medication known as colchicine (Colcrys) may react with clarithromycin, causing grave or life-threatening medical issues. It is not recommended to take colchicine in conjunction with clarithromycin, amoxicillin, or Omeprazole in particular in the case of an older person with kidney disease.There are times when it's not recommended to take certain medications in combination. Certain drugs may affect the blood levels and the other medications you are taking, which could create side effects or render the medication less effective.Clarithromycin could cause serious heart issues. Your risk of developing heart problems is greater if you are also taking various other drugs for asthma, infections, heart conditions, high blood pressure, mental illness, depression, malaria, cancer, or HIV.

Discuss with your physician all the medicines you take, including:

  • Cilostazol;
  • Carbamazepine;
  • Probenecid;
  • Sildenafil (via viagra and others);
  • Tacrolimus;
  • Theophylline;
  • Heart rhythm medication
  • Hiv/aids medication;
  • A sedative like alprazolam, triazolam, xanax, or versed;
  • "statin" cholesterol medication;
  • A blood thinner (warfarin, coumadin, jantoven)
