What is Zomig-ZMT?

Zomig-ZMT is a migraine medicine that reduces blood vessels that surround the brain. It also decreases the amount of substances within the body that trigger headaches, nausea, sensitization to sound and light, and other migraine-related symptoms.

Zomig-ZMT can be used to treat migraine headaches in adults.Zomig-ZMT is only a treatment for headaches that have already started. It cannot help prevent headaches or reduce the severity of headaches.

Zomig-ZMT is not recommended to treat common tension-related headaches, headaches that result in an inability to move on the opposite or other side, or any other headache that appears to be different from a typical migraine headache. Make sure to only use this medication when your condition is confirmed by a physician for migraine-related headaches.Zomig-ZMT can also be used for reasons not mentioned in this guideline.

Side effects of Zomig-ZMT

Seek medical attention immediately. If you are experiencing warning signs of an allergic reaction, such as symptoms of hives, breathing difficulties, or swelling of your lips, face, or tongue,

Zomig-ZMT could cause serious adverse side effects. Stop taking Zomig-ZMT and contact your physician immediately in the event that you experience:

  • The sensation of tension in your jaw, throat, neck, or chest
  • Heartbeats that are fast or rapid; dizziness;
  • Extreme stomach pain, severe stomach pain, and bloody diarrhea;
  • Heart attack symptoms include chest pressure or pain that is spreading into your shoulder or jaw, sickness, sweating,
  • Serotonin levels are high within the body, causing hallucinations, anxiety, fever, a fast heart rate, excessively active reflexes, nausea, vomiting, loss of coordination, diarrhea, and fainting.

Common adverse effects of Zomig-ZMT could include:

  • Tension or pain in your chest or throat;
  • Dry mouth, upset stomach;
  • The sensation of pressure or a heavy feeling within your body;
  • Drowsiness, feeling tired,
  • Flushing (warmth or redness) or tingly sensation.

Warnings

Zomig-ZMT should not be used if you suffer from uncontrolled elevated blood pressure, heart issues, certain heart rhythm disorders, a history of a stroke or heart attack, or other circulation issues that result in a deficiency of blood supply to the body.

Don't take this medicine if you've used an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days, for example, isocarboxazid, linezolid blue injections, phenelzine, rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine.Do not take Zomig-ZMT within 24 hours prior to or after taking an alternative migraine medication.

Before you take this drug

Zomig-ZMT should not be used if you have an allergy to it or are suffering from

  • Coronary heart condition, angina (chest pain), or blood circulation issues in the absence or lack of supply for the heart.
  • A background with the heart or a heart attack or stroke, such as "mini-stroke";
  • Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome;
  • Uncontrolled or severe high blood pressure
  • A blood vessel problem or circulation issue that causes the body to have a shortage of blood in the body.
  • A headache that appears distinct from the usual migraines.

Avoid using Zomig-ZMT if you've taken an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days. A potentially dangerous interaction with a drug could occur.

To ensure that Zomig-ZMT is appropriate for you, consult your doctor if you suffer from:

  • Heart disease heart disease, high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats;
  • Epilepsy or seizures;
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • An illness for which you are prescribed the drug cimetidine (Tagamet).
  • Heart illness (or risk factors like menopause, diabetes, being overweight, having high cholesterol, or having an ancestral medical history of coronary disease, being over 40, being a male, or being a woman who underwent an operation to remove her uterus)

Zomig ZMT disintegrating tablets could contain phenylalanine. Consult your physician prior to taking this type of zolmitriptan if you suffer from phenylketonuria (PKU).It isn't known if this medication could cause harm to a baby who is not yet born. Consult your physician if you are expecting or planning to become pregnant.

It isn't known if the zolmitriptan is absorbed into breast milk or whether it can harm the baby who is nursing. Consult your physician if you are breastfeeding a baby.Zomig-ZMT is not a product that has been approved to be used by anyone younger than 18 years old.

How to take Zomig-ZMT?

Follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Your doctor may change your dosage to ensure that you receive the most effective outcomes. Don't use Zomig-ZMT in small or larger amounts or for longer than is recommended.Utilize Zomig-ZMT as soon as you begin to notice symptoms of migraine.

Take the normal tablet with a full glass of water.

To consume the oral dissolving tablet (Zomig-ZMT):

  • Place the tablet in its blister package until you're ready to take it. Unlock the pack and peel off the foil. Be careful not to put a tablet in the foil, as you could harm the tablet.
  • Dry hands are the best way to remove the tablet, then put it in your mouth.
  • Don't swallow the tablet completely. Let it dissolve in the mouth without chewing. If you want, you could drink a liquid to aid in swallowing the tablet after it has disintegrated.

Following the intake of a tablet, if your headache doesn't completely disappear or is absent only to come back after taking a tablet, you should take another two hours after the first. Do not exceed 10 mg of zolmitriptan over 24 hours. If your symptoms haven't changed, talk to your doctor before taking any additional tablets.Consult your physician if your headache persists in any way after the first Zomig-ZMT tablet.

Do not exceed your prescribed dosage. The use of too much migraine medication could cause more headaches.Talk to your doctor if you have more than four migraines in a calendar month (30 days). Talk to your doctor if the medication isn't working or if you are experiencing migraines.

Zomig-ZMT could elevate blood pressure to levels that are dangerous. Your blood pressure could require frequent monitoring when you take this medication. The function of your heart may have to be monitored with an electrocardiograph, also known as an ECG (sometimes known as the EKG).Keep at room temperature, away from heat, humidity, and light.

What happens if I miss a dose?

As Zomig-ZMT can be used only when necessary, it doesn't have a regular dosing schedule. Consult your physician promptly in the event that your symptoms don't improve after taking Zomig-ZMT.

Avoid this

Don't take Zomig ZMT for at least 24 hours prior to or following taking another medication for migraine, including:

  • ZMT nasal spray: almotriptan, theraptan, frovatriptan, sumatriptan, rizatriptan,
  • Ergot medicine: dihydroergotamine, ergotamine, ergonovine, and methylergonovine.

Zomig-ZMT can affect your thinking or reactions. Be cautious when you drive or perform any activity that requires the user to remain aware.

Interaction with other drugs

Utilizing Zomig-ZMT when you're taking other medications can result in excessive levels of serotonin accumulating in your body. This is an issue known as "serotonin syndrome," which could be fatal. Consult your physician if you also take:

  • Medication for treating the symptoms of depression;
  • Medication to treat a psychiatric disorder
  • A drug called a narcotic (opioid) medication
  • Medication to stop nausea or vomiting.
