Generic name: aspirin and omeprazole [AS-pir-in-and-oh-MEP-ra-zole]

What is Yosprala?

Yosprala includes a mix consisting of aspirin and omeprazole. Aspirin acts as an inhibitor of platelet aggregation. It also lowers the levels of certain substances that cause fever, pain, and inflammation. Omeprazole is an inhibitor of the proton pump that reduces the amount of acid that is produced by the stomach.Yosprala can help reduce your risk for heart disease, strokes, or even death in patients who have suffered from certain diseases connected with blood clots, which include angina (chest pain), a past heart attack, stroke, or "mini stroke."Yosprala is also prescribed to those who have undergone surgery to increase the flow of blood to the heart and who also suffer from another health issue that is being treated using aspirin.Omeprazole can reduce the risk of ulcers in the stomach that could be caused by aspirin, particularly in those who are older than 55 or who have suffered stomach ulcers in the past.

Warnings

It is not recommended to make use of Yosprala in the event that you are taking medication that contains rilpivirine or if you've had an asthma attack or an extreme allergic reaction after taking aspirin or a different NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication).Aspirin may cause you to suffer from bleeding more frequently. Call your doctor for unusual bleeding or bruising, when you spit up blood, or when you experience bloody or tarry stool.Omeprazole can cause kidney damage. Inform your doctor when you're urinating less than normal or if there is some blood in the urine.Diarrhoea can be a sign of a new infection. Consult your physician in the event of diarrhoea that is swollen or has blood within it.Omeprazole can cause the onset or worsening of symptoms of lupus. Inform your doctor if you suffer from joint pain or a skin eruption on your arms or cheeks. It worsens in sunlight.It is possible that you are more likely to sustain fractured bones while taking Yosprala for the long term or more than once a day.Do not stop taking Yosprala abruptly, even if you are good.

Before taking this medication, you must consult your physician.

It is not recommended to use Yosprala in the event that you are allergic to omeprazole or aspirin, or if you are:

  • You may also be allergic to medications such as esomeprazole, pantoprazole, and lansoprazole; Nexium; Prevacid; Protonix; and many more.
  • If you are taking a medication that contains the ingredient rilpivirine (Edurant, Complera, Juluca, Odefsey),
  • You've experienced the symptoms of an asthma attack or a severe allergic reaction (sneezing and runny nose wheezing, chest discomfort, shortness of breath) following the use of aspirin or an alternative NSAID
  • If you've had breathing issues, kidney problems, or a severe allergic reaction following taking this medication in the past,

Yosprala is not employed to treat sudden appearances of stroke or heart attack manifestations (chest pain suddenly, numbness or weakness, or speech slurred).Yosprala is not permitted for use by people younger than 18 years of age. Aspirin is known to cause Reye's syndrome, which is a severe and often fatal illness for children.

Contact your doctor if had any of the following:

  • A haemorrhage such as vitamin K deficiency;
  • The magnesium levels in your blood are low.
  • The habit of having more than three daily alcoholic drinks;
  • Kidney or liver disease
  • Lupus;
  • If you're of Asian descent,

It is possible that you are more likely to sustain fractured bones in your wrist, hip, or back when you take Yosprala for a long time or more than once a day. Talk with your doctor about ways to ensure your bones are healthy.The use of aspirin in the latter stages of pregnancy can cause bleeding for the mother or baby during birth. Tell your doctor whether you are expecting or are planning to be pregnant.Yosprala could temporarily alter the chances of getting pregnant. Discuss this with your doctor if this concerns you.It is not recommended to breastfeed while taking Yosprala.

How to takeYosprala?

You should take Yosprala exactly as directed by your physician. Follow the directions on the label of your prescription and study all instructions or medication guides. Make sure you are using the dose that works for treating your illness.Take the yoghurt in a complete cup of fluid. The recommended dosage is every day, 1 hour prior to eating.Take the tablet in one swallow, and make sure you don't smash, chew, or break the tablet.This medication can alter the results of certain tests. Inform any physician who treats you that you're taking Yosprala.Omeprazole can affect a drug-screening urine test, which means you could get inaccurate results. Inform the lab staff that you are using Yosprala.Don't stop taking this medication suddenly, even if you are feeling fine. The abrupt stoppage could increase the chance of having a stroke. Follow the instructions of your physician about the process of tapering your dose.Storage at room temperature is far from heat and moisture. Store the tablets in their original containers together with the package or container of moisture-absorbing preservative.

Details on dosage

Usual Adult Dose of Yosprala for Thromboembolic Stroke Prophylaxis:

A tablet (aspirin 81 mg, omeprazole 40 mg, or aspirin 325 mg, omeprazole 40 mg) every day, orally for at most 60 minutes prior to the meal
Comments:
In general, the dose of 81 mg of aspirin is considered to be an efficient dose for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The current guidelines for clinical practice must be considered when considering the necessity of the dosage of 325 mg of aspirin.
Use: For patients who require additional prevention of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events and who are at risk of developing aspirin-related gastric ulcers.

Usual Adult Dose of Yosprala for Ischemic Stroke—Prophylaxis:

A tablet (aspirin 81 mg, omeprazole 40 mg, or aspirin 225 mg, omeprazole 40 mg) is taken daily, orally, within 60 minutes prior to eating.
Comments:
Generally speaking, aspirin 81 mg is considered an efficient dose to treat secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. The current guidelines for clinical practice must be considered when evaluating the necessity of 325 mg or more of aspirin.
Use: in patients who require the prevention of secondary cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events and who are at risk of developing aspirin-related gastric ulcers.

Usual Adult Dose of Yosprala for Cardiovascular Risk Reduction:

1 tablet (aspirin 81 mg-omeprazole 40 mg, or aspirin 325 mg-omeprazole 40 mg) every day, orally for at most 60 minutes prior to the meal.
Comments:
In general, aspirin 81 mg has been deemed to be an acceptable dose for secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. The current clinical guidelines for practice must be considered when evaluating the necessity of 325 mg or more of aspirin.
Use: In patients who require additional prevention of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular issues and who are at high risk of developing aspirin-related gastric ulcers.

Do I be concerned if I miss a dose?

You should take the medication as quickly as you can; however, do not miss any missed doses if it's close to the time for the next dose. Don't take two doses at the same time unless your doctor advises you to.

What will happen if I take excessively?

Get medical attention in an emergency or contact the Poison Help Line toll-free at 1-800-222-1222.The signs of an overdose can include hearing ringing, more thirsty muscles, muscle aches or weakness, difficulty breathing, or feeling cold.

What should be avoided?

Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking any prescription medications. They could contain ingredients that are similar to omeprazole or aspirin.Combining regular aspirin with omeprazole (Prilosec) is not exactly the same as taking a combination of omeprazole and aspirin (Yosprala). Do not mix the medicine with other over-the-counter products.Drinking alcohol may increase your chance of bleeding from your stomach.

Side effects of Yosprala

Take immediate medical care. If you exhibit symptoms that indicate an allergy reaction, Yosprala: sneezing, nasal congestion, or runny nose; wheezing or difficulty breathing; or an allergic reaction such as hives or swelling on your lips, face, and tongue.

Contact your doctor immediately. If you suffer from:

  • Extreme severe nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, severe nausea, and diarrhoea that is either watery or bloody
  • The stool is bloody or tarry and coughs up blood, or it may vomit and resemble coffee grounds.
  • Easy bleeding, uncommon bleeding (such as nosebleeds), or bleeding that will not stop;
  • Unintentional pain or discomfort in your wrist, hip, or back
  • Kidney issues such as rash, fever, nausea, loss of appetite, joint pains, urination less frequently than normal, and urine with blood and weight gain.
  • Liver issues, abdominal pains, itching black urine, jaundice (yellowing of the eyes or skin);
  • Low magnesium: dizziness and a rapid or irregular heartbeat; shakes (shaking) or muscles that jerk that make you feel jittery; muscular muscles: spasms or cramps in your feet and hands; coughing or a choking sensation;
  • New or worsening symptoms of lupus joint pain and a rash of skin on your arms or cheeks, which gets worse when exposed to sunlight.

The use of Yosprala for a long time could cause stomach-related growths known as fundic polyps. Consult your doctor about the danger.If you are taking this medicine for more than 3 years, you may develop a vitamin B-12 deficiency. Consult your physician about the best way to treat this condition in the event that you develop it.

Common Yosprala adverse effects could include:

  • Heartburn, stomach pain, indigestion;
  • Nausea, diarrhoea,
  • Chest discomfort (may be caused by eating)

Interaction with other drugs

There are times when it's not recommended to take certain medicines in combination. Certain drugs may affect the blood levels and the other medications that you take, which can create side effects or render the medication less effective.Inform your doctor about all the medications you take. A variety of drugs may be incompatible with aspirin and Omprazole, in particular:

  • Clopidogrel;
  • Digoxin;
  • Methotrexate;
  • Rifampin;
  • John's wort;
  • Ticagrelor;
  • Diuretic or "water pill";
  • Nsds (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications): aspirin, ibuprofen (advil, motrin), naproxen (aleve), celecoxib, diclofenac, indomethacin, meloxicam, and more.
