What is Symlinpen 60?

Symlinpen60 is a synthetic form of a natural hormone found in the human body. This medicine lowers your blood sugar in three different ways. This medicine slows down the speed at which food is moved from your stomach into your intestines. It prevents your blood sugar levels from rising too quickly. This medicine lowers the amount of glucose (sugar) that your liver produces. This medicine also triggers a feeling of fullness following meals, which helps control your appetite.

Symlinpen is used in conjunction with insulin for the treatment of type 1 diabetes. This medication is given when other diabetes medications have failed. Symlinpen can be used in other ways than those listed in the medication guide.

Side effects of Symlinpen 60

If you experience any of the following signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips or throat. Please seek medical assistance immediately.

Symlinpen can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe ongoing nausea; o
  • Extreme Hypoglycemia--headache, dizziness, drowsiness, vision problems, hunger, weakness, sweating confusion, irritability, fast heart rate, feeling jittery are symptoms.

  • Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting,

Warnings

Symlinpen should not be used if you suffer from a digestive disorder called "deferred gastric emptying."

Symlinpen should not be used if you are unable to recognize the symptoms of low blood sugar. This medicine may cause a severe low blood sugar level (hypoglycemia). It can happen within three hours of the injection. Some symptoms include dizziness, headaches, weakness, confusion, sweating, irritability, or jitteriness.

Before you take this drug

This medicine should not be used if:

  • If you suffer from "delayed stomach emptying," or something known as the delayed emptying syndrome.
  • If you are unable to recognize the symptoms of low sugar,

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that symlinpen is safe for you:

  • A history of delayed emptying of the stomach;
  • Blindness or difficulty reading;
  • If you are unable to check your blood sugars regularly,
  • If you've had severe hypoglycemia at least twice in the last 6 months,

Unknown is whether symlinpen will harm a baby in utero. If you plan to get pregnant or are currently pregnant, tell your doctor.

It is unknown if pramlintide can pass into breast milk or if a nursing infant could be harmed by it. You should notify your physician if you're breastfeeding your child. Symlinpen60 should not be used by children.

How to take Symlinpen 60?

Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. If necessary, your doctor may change the dose you are taking to ensure that you achieve the best possible results. Your insulin dose may change when you start using symlinpen. Use your medicine only as prescribed. Do not exceed the recommended dosage or extend its use beyond its intended period. Symlinpen is injected into the skin at the same time that you inject insulin, but it's a separate injection. Self-injecting medicines is not recommended if you are not familiar with how to inject the medicine and dispose of used needles or syringes. Never mix symlinpen and insulin in the same syringe. Symlinpen comes with instructions to ensure safe and effective usage. Please read the instructions carefully. If you have questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Symlinpen is typically taken just before a major meal. Skip the dose of this medication if you miss a meal.

Each time you inject, use a new area on your stomach or leg. Inject your insulin into a separate skin area. Don't inject symlinpen or insulin in the same area twice. Symlinpen is not to be used if the color has changed or if the pen appears cloudy. For new medications, call your pharmacist. Everyone with diabetes can experience low blood sugar. Headaches, thirst, sweating, and confusion are all symptoms of hypoglycemia. Keep sugar on hand in case your blood sugar drops. Sugar can be found in fruit juices, hard candy, and crackers. Raisins, non-diet soda, and raisins are also sugar sources. Be prepared for an emergency with your family by planning what steps should be taken should an incident arise.

Be careful not to allow your blood glucose level to fall too low. Within 3 hours of your symlinpen injection, you may experience a severe drop in blood sugar. Use an injection if you are suffering from severe hypoglycemia. You can get a glucagon injection kit from your doctor. Watch for other signs such as drowsiness (including a fruity breath smell), dry skin, blurred sight, and loss of weight.

You should check your blood sugar levels if you are stressed, traveling, ill, undergoing surgery, in an emergency situation, exercising vigorously, drinking alcohol, or skipping meals. Your glucose levels can be affected by these factors, and you may need to adjust your dosage. Never change the dosage or schedule of your medication without consulting your doctor. Only use a disposable syringe and needle once. Use syringes and needles only once. Ask your pharmacist how to safely dispose of sharps in an indestructible container that keeps pets and children away. Never share an injectable pen with anyone else. Sharing an injection pen can spread diseases such as HIV or hepatitis. If you experience severe nausea for more than a few days, call your doctor. This could be an indication that you are taking too much.

Symlinpen is part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes dietary changes, exercise, weight management, regular blood glucose testing, and medical attention. Maintain a regular schedule for using your injections and checking your blood sugar. Plan your diet and exercise. If you don't follow the instructions, it may be impossible to continue using this medication.

You may have to start the medication again at a smaller dose if you temporarily stop using symlinpen. Please follow your doctor's advice. Storing injection pens that have not been opened: Store in a dark, cool place. Symlinpens 60 that have not been used by the date of expiration printed on the label should be thrown away. Do not freeze this medication. Throw away any medication that has frozen.

Before injecting, remove the injection pen from the fridge and let it reach room temperature. Symlinpen is not to be removed from the injector pen. Instead, it should be placed in a syringe. You could receive a high dose. After your first use, you can store "in-use", injection pens at room temperature or in the fridge. Use within 30 days.

What happens if I miss the dose?

You should take the missed dose immediately after you realize it, but only when you are about to eat. If your next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose. You should not take more medicine to compensate for a missed dose.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. Overdose can cause dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, cold sweats, or warmth.

What should be avoided?

If you are involved in an accident, severe hypoglycemia can affect your ability to think or react. You may also suffer an injury. You should be careful when you are driving, operating machinery, or doing anything that requires alertness.

Symlinpen can cause your digestive system to slow down, which may make it harder for you to absorb medicines that you take orally. Take oral medications at least 1 hour before using this medication or within 2 hours of its use. Avoid alcohol. Alcohol can cause your blood sugar to drop.

Interaction with other drug

Pramlintide may interact with other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your healthcare providers of all the medicines you are taking and those you plan to take.
