
What is Silenor?
Silenor is an antidepressant tricyclic.The Silenor tablet is used for treating insomnia in those who have difficulty sleeping.
This guide to medication provides details on this Silenor version of the drug, which is used in treating insomnia. Sinequan, along with other versions of doxepin that are used to treat anxiety or depression, are not included in this guide to medication. Silenor tablets cannot be used to treat depression.
Warnings
Silenor is not recommended in the case of an untreated case of narrow-angle glaucoma or a serious issue with urination.Do not use doxepin in the event that you've taken an MAO inhibitor within the past 14 days, including linezolid and isocarboxazid, as well as methylene blue injections, phenelzine rasagiline, selegiline, or tranylcypromine.
A few people who are taking the medicine have engaged in various activities, such as eating, driving, and making calls, and then forgotten about the activities. If this happens to you, discontinue taking Silenor and consult your physician.
Prior to use this drug
It is not recommended to use Silenor if you have an allergy to doxepin, amoxapine, or loxapine or are suffering from
- Untreated narrow-angle glaucoma,
- Urination issues that are severe
Don't use Silenor in the event that you've used an MAO inhibitor within the last 14 days. A risky drug interaction may occur. MAO inhibitors include isocarboxazid linezolid, Methylene blue injection rasagiline, and phenelzine, as well as tranylcypromine.
Inform your physician whether you've taken any "SSRI" antidepressant in the last five weeks, such as fluoxetine, escitalopram, or citalopram. (Prozac), fluvoxamine, sertraline, paroxetine (Zoloft), trazodone, or vilazodone.

How to take Silenor?
Use Silenor exactly as directed by your physician. Follow the directions on the prescription label and also read the medication guide or instructions sheets.
Use this medicine 30 minutes prior to the time you go to bed. Don't take the medicine within 3 hours of eating.
It could take between 7 and 10 days before the symptoms of insomnia improve. Continue using the medication as prescribed and contact your physician in the event that your symptoms don't ameliorate after a week of therapy.
Keep the bottle at room temperature, free of heat, moisture, and light. Make sure the bottle is tightly shut when not being used.
What happens if I miss the dose?

What should be avoided?
Avoid drinking or consuming alcohol. Dangerous side effects or even death could happen.
Do not take Silenor for 3 to 4 hours after eating a meal.
Avoid driving or engaging in hazardous activities until you are aware of the effects of this medicine on you. The feeling of dizziness or drowsiness could result in falls, accidents, or even serious injuries.
Side effects of Silenor
Take immediate medical attention. Get medical attention immediately if you notice symptoms of an allergic reaction. Silenor: hives, breathing problems, or swelling of your lips, face, and tongue.
Certain people taking this medication have been involved in activities when they weren't fully awake and then did not remember them. This may include walking in a car, driving, or taking phone calls. If this happens to you, contact your physician as soon as possible.
See your doctor right away. If you are suffering from:
- Strange thoughts or behaviors;
- Confusion, hallucinations;
- Low mood, thoughts about harming yourself
- Uncontrolled muscle movements
- A seizure;
- A feeling of lightheadedness, as if you're about to pass out.
- The appearance of blisters or ulcers inside your mouth, swollen or red gums, difficulty swallowing
- Eye discomfort or redness;
- Chest pain;
- Low red blood cells (anemia): pale skin, unusual fatigue sensation of lightheadedness or sluggishness, cold feet and hands,
- Indications of symptoms of infection: flu-like symptoms: swelling, skin redness, diarrhea, white patches on the skin, discomfort breathing or burning after urination.
Common silent adverse effects could include:
- Drowsiness, tiredness;
- Nausea;
- Symptoms of the cold, like nasal stuffiness, sneezing, and a sore throat.

Interaction with other drugs
The use of Silenor, along with other medicines that cause you to become drowsy, could cause more of this. Consult your physician before taking an opioid medication, sleeping pill, a muscle relaxer, or medicine to treat anxiety as well as seizures.
Discuss with your doctor any other medications you take, particularly:
- Cimetidine (Tagamet);
- Tolazamide (Tolinase).
