What is Rylaze?
Rylaze is a cancer medication. Erwinase can be used to treat acute lymphoblastic leukemia in adults and children older than 4 months who are allergic to Elspar, Oncaspar, or Rylaze. Rylaze can be used to treat adults and children older than 1 month who are allergic to asparaginase. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Rylaze.
Side-effects of Rylaze
If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling of your lips, face, or throat.
Rylaze can cause serious side effects. If you experience:
- Easy bruising and bleeding (nosebleeds or bleeding gums);
- Any bleeding that won't stop
- Blisters or ulcers on your lips, swollen or red gums, difficulty swallowing
- Signs of liver or pancreas disease include severe stomach pain, nausea or vomiting (nausea), or jaundice.
- Signs of a blood clot: sudden numbness, weakness, or pain (especially in one side of the body); a severe headache or chest pain; feeling short of breath; or pain or swelling of an arm or leg.
- Low white blood cell count: fever; mouth sores or skin sores; sore neck; cough.
- Dry mouth and fruity breath smell.
Should any adverse reactions develop during cancer therapy, its implementation could be postponed or cancelled altogether.
Some of the common side effects that Rylaze can cause include:
- Liver or pancreas disorders;
- Blood clots or bleeding;
- High blood sugar
- Diarrhea, stomach pain, nausea, loss of appetite, and vomiting;
- Fever, headaches, fatigue, and mouth sores are all symptoms of a fever.
- Joint pain, bone pain, or muscle pain
- Allergic reaction, skin rash,
- Abnormal liver function tests

Warnings
Do not use it other than as directed.Tell your doctor of any medications, allergies or medical conditions you are currently taking as well as allergies and any medical concerns or allergies you have.
Before you take this drug
Rylaze should not be used if, in the past, you received asparaginase and developed:
- A serious allergic reaction
- Serious pancreas problems;
- A life-threatening blood clot;
- Serious bleeding problems.
Inform your doctor immediately of any of the following issues:
- You may have problems with your pancreas or liver.
- Bleeding problems
- A blood clot
- Diabetes.
Can harm an unborn child. A pregnancy test may be needed to confirm that you are not pregnant. Use birth control during treatment with this medication and for 3 months following your last dose. Inform your physician immediately if you become pregnant. Rylaze can reduce the effectiveness of hormonal birth control, such as birth control pills and skin patches. Barrier birth control can be used to prevent pregnancy. These include a condom, diaphragm, or cervical cap. Do not breastfeed while using this medicine for 3 months following your last dose of Erwinase.
How to take Rylaze?
Read all instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow all directions. Follow the directions on the label. Inject Rylaze into the muscle or vein. Erwinase injections are usually administered every 48 hours. Rylaze is available every 48 hours, or three times a week.
Please read and follow all instructions for use that come with your medicine. If you're not sure how to inject a medicine, ask your pharmacist or doctor. Your healthcare provider can show you how to inject Rylaze. Do not repeat the same injection in the same area. Shaking the bottle can ruin the medicine. Only prepare an injection when you're ready to administer it. If the color of your medicine has changed or if it has particles, call your pharmacist. Never reuse a syringe or needle. Put them in a "sharps container" that is puncture-proof, and dispose of the sharps according to local or state laws. Keep away from children and pets. You will need to test your blood often, and you may have to change the dose or schedule of medication based on the results. The dose is based on the body surface area. You may need to adjust your dose if you lose or gain weight, or if you are still growing. Other medications may be prescribed to prevent allergic reactions or serious side effects. Continue to take these medications as prescribed by your doctor. After one use, throw away the vial or bottle, even if it still contains medicine. What happens if I miss the dose?
If you miss a dosage, call your doctor to get instructions.

What should be avoided?
If your doctor prescribes any restrictions regarding food, beverage, or activity, follow their instructions.
Interaction with other drug
Rylaze may be affected by other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the other medications you take.
