What is Ripretinib?

Ripretinib can be used to treat stomach and intestinal tumors in adults. Ripretinib can be used in adults who are already receiving at least three other cancer medications. Ripretinib can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Ripretinib

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat.

Ripretinib can cause serious side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting;
  • Severe headache; blurred vision; or pounding in the neck and ears
  • Pain, blisters, or bleeding in your palms or soles
  • Heart problems: tiredness, shortness of breath, swelling of the veins on your neck or in your lower legs, or stomach.
  • Low red blood cells (anemia): ) - pale skin, unusual fatigue, feeling lightheaded or short of breath, cold hands or feet;
  • Skin changes include a new wart or a red or bleeding bump on the skin that does not heal or bleed.

Ripretinib can cause the following side effects:

  • Vomiting, nausea, and loss of appetite are all symptoms that can be associated with stomach pain.
  • Diarrhea, constipation;
  • Tiredness;
  • Muscle pain;
  • Hair loss

Before you take this drug

If you have hypertension that is not controlled or treated (high blood pressure), then ripretinib may not be suitable for you.

Tell your doctor about any of the following:

  • A skin condition called palmar-plantar syndrome
  • High blood pressure
  • Heart problems
  • If you recently had surgery or are planning to have surgery,

The use of ripretinib can increase the risk of developing cancerous skin. You may need to have your skin checked while using ripretinib. Your doctor can tell you about the skin symptoms that may need to be monitored. Before starting the treatment, you may need to take a pregnancy test. Women and men who use this medication should both use birth control methods to avoid pregnancy. The unborn child can be harmed if either the mother or father uses this medicine. Use birth control during your treatment and for at least 1 week following the last dose. If you become pregnant while taking ripretinib, either as a mother or father, tell your doctor immediately. This medication may have an effect on male fertility (the ability of men to have children). It is still important to use birth control to avoid pregnancy, as ripretinib may harm the unborn child. After taking this medication, breastfeeding must be put off for one week after using this treatment.

How to take Ripretinib?

Carefully read all instructions or guides included with your medication and adhere to them.Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed. Do not attempt to chew, crush, or break your tablet. Take your medicine every day at the same time, with or without eating. Do not take a second dose if you vomit soon after taking ripretinib. Do not take another dose until you have taken your next scheduled dosage. You will need to check your blood pressure regularly. You may also have to check your heart function. Tell your surgeon, if you are considering surgery, that you use this medication. You may have to stop using this medicine for a while. If you experience certain side effects, your cancer treatment may be permanently stopped or delayed. Do not stop taking Ripretinib or change the dose without consulting your doctor. Storing away from direct heat or moisture at room temperature. Keep the tablets and the moisture-absorbing preservative in the original containers.

Details on dosage

Adult dose for gastrointestinal stromal tumor:

Recommended dose: 150mg orally, once daily, until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity
Use: To treat adult patients with advanced gastrointestinal tumors (GIST) who have previously received treatment with three or more kinase-inhibitors, including Imatinib.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. However, if the dose is more than eight hours past due, skip that dose. Take only one dose at a time.

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

Ripretinib can cause you to burn more quickly. Avoid tanning beds or sunlight. When you're outdoors, wear protective clothing and use sunblock (SPF 30 or higher).

Interaction with other drug

It is sometimes not safe to take certain medications together. Some drugs may affect the blood levels of drugs that you are taking, causing side effects or making them less effective. Inform your doctor of all other medications you are taking, including blood pressure medication. Ripretinib can be affected by other drugs, such as vitamins and herbal supplements. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are currently taking and those that you have started or stopped using.
