What is Revia?

Revia is a drug that blocks opioid effects, such as pain relief and feelings of wellbeing.revia prevents relapse among adults who have become dependent on opioid medication and stopped taking it. The medicine helps you not feel the "need" for opioids.revia can also be used for alcoholism by decreasing your desire to consume alcohol. You may be able to drink less or even stop altogether. The medicine won't make you "sober" or reduce the alcohol effects you have recently consumed.revia does not treat alcoholism or drug dependence.revia can be used in other ways not mentioned in the medication guide.

Side effects of Revia

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy: difficulty breathing, hives, swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tonguewithdrawal can be triggered by opioid medication. The most common withdrawal symptoms include a craving for opioids. Other signs and symptoms may include sweating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or watery eyes.

Revia can cause severe side effects. If you experience:

  • Severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
  • Confusion, mood swings, crying, or hallucinations are all symptoms of confusion.
  • Depression: thoughts of suicide and self-harm

A high dose of oral naltrexone may damage your liver. Call your doctor immediately if you experience upper-right stomach pain or vomiting.

Revia can cause a number of side effects.

  • Nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain;
  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness;
  • Feeling anxious or nervous
  • Sleep problems (insomnia);
  • Joint or muscle pain.

Warnings

Revia should not be used if the patient has liver disease or active hepatitis. It is also contraindicated if the person suffers from opioid addiction or withdrawal symptoms.A high dose of oral naltrexone may damage your liver. Call your doctor immediately if you experience upper-right stomach pain or vomiting.

Before you take this drug

Revia should be avoided if the patient is allergic or:

  • You are addicted to opioids.
  • Are You Feeling Withdrawal Symptoms from Opiate Abuse?
  • You have taken any opioid pain medication within the last 7–10 days, including fentanyl, Vicodin, oxycontin, and others.
  • Have You taken Methadone or LAAM within the Last 7-10 Days?
  • You have liver disease or active hepatitis.

If you've ever:

  • Liver diseases
  • Kidney disease is a serious condition.

Inform your doctor whether you are breastfeeding or pregnant.revia isn't known to harm unborn babies. If you use opioids while pregnant, they could make your unborn child dependent upon them and lead them down a dangerous path of dependency and withdrawal symptoms that could threaten its life. A baby who's born addicted to opioids will need treatment for several months.

How to take Revia?

Read and follow all instructions or guides included with your medication. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. You must take the medication exactly as prescribed.You may be advised by your doctor to have someone else, such as a caregiver or family member, make sure that you use revia according to the prescribed schedule. This will ensure you're using it correctly.revia should be taken with water.revia may cause stomach upset if taken with food.Wear or carry a medical ID to alert others that you use revia in an emergency.revia may be part of an overall treatment plan that includes additional counseling or monitoring. You should follow your doctor’s advice.Keep the bottle at room temperature, away from heat and moisture. When not in use, keep the bottle closed tightly.Your body is more susceptible to opioids after taking revia. You will have to take less opioid medication in the future if you want to continue using it. The same dose you were using before can lead to an overdose and death.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for the next dose, skip the missed one. Never take more than one dose at once.

What happens if I overdose?

Call 1-800-222-1222 for poison help or seek immediate medical attention.

What should be avoided?

While taking revia, refrain from taking heroin or any illicit substances (including opioid medications). Do not take large amounts of opioids to counteract the effects of naltrexone. This could lead to dangerous side effects, such as comma.Before taking any medication to relieve a cold or other symptoms such as diarrhea and pain, consult your doctor. They may contain opioids, and they may not be as effective while taking revia.revia can impair thinking and reactions. You should be careful when driving or doing anything else that involves being alert.

Interaction with other drug

Revia may be affected by other drugs, such as prescription or over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal products. Informing your physician of all medications you are currently taking and those you stop or start using is extremely important for their own wellbeing and that of others.
