What is Microgestin 24-FE?

The combination pill Microgestin24 FE contains female hormones that prevent ovulation.Your medication could also lead to changes to your cervical mucus and/or uterine lining.This makes it more difficult for fertilized eggs to adhere to the uterus and for sperm to reach it. As a contraceptive, Microgestin 24-FE can be used to avoid pregnancy. Women who have reached the age of 15 and started menstruating can also use microgestin to treat mild acne. There are several brands available of ethinyl esteradiol and norethindrone. This leaflet does not list all the available brands. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of Microgestin 24-FE.

Side effects of Microgestin 24-FE

If you experience any of the following signs of an allergy reaction, seek medical advice immediately: difficulty breathing, hives or swelling on lips, face, throat or tongue.

The side effects of this medicine can be serious. If you experience:

  • Signs of stroke: sudden numbness, weakness, headaches, difficulty with speech or vision, and balance problems;
  • Signs of a blood clot in the lungs: chest pain, sudden cough, shortness of breath, or dizziness;
  • Signs of a deep blood clot—pain or swelling in one leg.
  • Heart attack symptoms include chest pain, pressure or pain that spreads to the jaw or shoulders, nausea, and sweating.
  • Liver problems: swelling around the midsection of your body, upper right stomach pain, lack of appetite, dark-colored urine, clay-colored stool, and jaundice.
  • Increased blood pressure—a severe headache, blurred or distorted vision, pounding of the neck, ears, and/or head;
  • Depression is characterized by mood changes, low self-esteem, sleep disturbances, and thoughts of harming yourself.
  • A lump in the breast, hands, feet, or ankles;
  • A change in migraine headache patterns or intensity.

Microgestin 24-FE can cause the following side effects:

  • Nausea, vomiting;
  • Breast tenderness or bleeding.
  • Headache or contact lens problems

Warnings

Avoid using birth control pills while pregnant or after having a recent baby. Do not take birth control pills if: you are uncontrolled; you have high blood pressure; you have heart disease; or you have coronary artery diseases. You also should avoid birth control pills if your liver is ill or if there has been liver cancer or disease. If you smoke, and especially if your age is over 35, taking birth control pills or smoking can raise the risk of blood clots or stroke, as well as heart attacks.

Before you take this drug

Birth control pills may increase the risk of stroke or heart attack. If you suffer from high blood pressure or diabetes, have high cholesterol, or are overweight, you're at an even greater risk. The risk of a stroke or blood clot increases during the first year you take birth control pills.Your risk increases significantly if you resume taking birth control pills after an absence of four weeks. If you're older than 35, smoking can raise your chances of blood clots or stroke. Avoid using it if pregnant. Tell your doctor immediately if you are pregnant or miss two menstrual cycles in a row. Wait at least four weeks postpartum if you just gave birth.

If you are pregnant, or if:

  • Untreated or uncontrolled hypertension or heart disease.
  • An increased risk for blood clots as a result of a blood disorder or heart disease;
  • Circulatory issues caused by diabetes should also be monitored closely.
  • Cancer of the breast, uterus or cervix; vaginal or ovarian origin is present;
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding was not checked by your doctor.
  • Liver disease, or cancer of the liver;
  • Severe migraine headaches, especially in older people over 35.
  • A history of jaundice due to pregnancy or birth-control pills
  • If you are aged over 35 and smoke cigarettes, and an assessment has identified potential risk factors for lung cancer, please read below for additional guidance.
  • If you take any hepatitis C medication containing ombitasvir, paritaprevir or ritonavir with or without dasabuvir as a combination therapy.

If you've ever:

  • If you have heart disease, blood pressure problems, or are susceptible to blood clots, then this is the product for you.
  • If you have high triglycerides or cholesterol or are overweight,.
  • Depression;
  • A seizure or migraine headache;
  • Gallbladder Disease Underactive Thyroid
  • Liver or kidney disease
  • Uneven menstrual cycle, fibrocystic breast disease, or lumps or nodules on a mammogram.

A doctor can tell you if breastfeeding is possible while taking this medication.

How to take Microgestin 24-FE?

Be sure to read and heed any accompanying instructions or guides and follow all directions as outlined on your prescription label. As soon as you begin taking this medication, it may be necessary for you to use an additional birth control method, such as condoms with spermicide - always follow the advice of your healthcare provider in this matter. One pill should be taken each day, though no more frequently than every 24 hours. When your previous supply runs out, start a fresh pack immediately - otherwise pregnancy could occur! If you miss taking your daily pills it may lead to conception. Some birth control packages contain reminder pills to help regulate your cycle and start it when needed. When taking such pills, your period usually commences within 24 to 48 hours. inder pills" to help you maintain your normal cycle.Your period should start after using birth control pills, though severe diarrhea or vomiting should require backup birth control measures. Furthermore, bleeding could occur through your skin; if this persists or becomes heavy enough to warrant medical intervention.

If you are going under major surgery or being hospitalized for long periods, you should temporarily cease using Microgestin 24FE and inform any physician treating you that this medication is being taken. It's also important to inform them if using this medicine is becoming an issue for them. You will have to see your doctor frequently if you are taking birth-control pills. Stay away from heat and moisture at room temperature.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you missed two active pills back-to-back within the first or second week, take two pills each day for two consecutive days for at least two consecutive weeks, with the option to switch up between them as needed until your pack runs out. In case of missing any active pill(s), utilize an alternative birth control method for at least seven days until this cycle completes itself. If your Day 1 starter pack is empty, if it was started on Sunday, continue taking one pill each day until Sunday and discard the remaining pills then start fresh with your brand new package on that same day.

If you missed three pills consecutively during the first, second, or third weeks, starting all over is possible. If your start date was Sunday and you started then too, continue taking pills until Sunday when they should be discarded in favor of starting fresh with another package on that same day. You may miss your period if you don't take two active pills or more. Call your doctor if you have missed a period in two consecutive months. You might be pregnant. You can throw away the missed pill and continue taking one reminder per day until you run out of pills.

What happens if I overdose?

Call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care.An overdose can lead to vomiting or bleeding.

What should be avoided?

Don't smoke when taking birth-control pills. This is especially true if you are more than 35 years old. The use of birth control pills does not provide protection against sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/AIDS. The only way to prevent these diseases is by using a condom.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your physician of all medications taken, such as:

  • Rifampin;
  • Troglitazone;
  • Atorvastatin;
  • Glecaprevir/pibrentasvir;
  • Anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine, phenobarbital, and phenytoin (antiepileptics).
