What is Methylin?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is treated with methylin in children and adults older than 6 years. Some brands of extended-release tablets can only be used for treating attention deficit disorder in adults younger than 65 and in children older than 6 years. Methylin is also prescribed to treat a sleeping disorder known as narcolepsy. This medication guide does not list all possible uses of methylin.

Side effects of Methylin

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy reaction, seek immediate medical attention: difficulty breathing or swelling in your lips, face, throat, or tongue. Certain stimulants can cause strokes, heart attacks, and sudden deaths in some people.If any of these symptoms arise, immediately seek medical help.

The side effects of methylin can be serious. If you experience:

  • Signs of blood or heart circulation problems include chest pain, an irregular heartbeat, difficulty breathing, numbness or cold sensations, and pale fingers and toes.
  • Signs of psychosis or mania include: seeing or hearing something that is not true; aggressiveness; paranoia; and a decreased need to sleep. Other signs are agitation or talking.
  • A seizure (tic), changes to your vision, or blurred vision
  • A painful erection lasting 4 hours or more

Methylin can affect the growth of children.If your child's growth seems abnormal while taking this medication, please notify their physician immediately.

Methylin can cause a variety of side effects.

  • Increased blood pressure and sweating
  • Sleep problems, mood swings, anxiety, and irritability
  • Restlessness, nervousness;
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat;
  • Loss of appetite Weight loss
  • Dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, upset stomach;
  • Headache, dizziness.

Warnings

Stimulants can cause strokes, heart attacks, and sudden deaths in those with heart problems, high blood pressure, or heart defects. It is possible that methylin can become habit-forming. Abuse of the drug can lead to addiction, death, and overdose. Store it in a place where other people cannot reach it. It is illegal to sell or give away methylin. If you experience chest pains, feel lightheaded, see or hear things that aren't real, have a decreased desire to sleep, or become agitated, or if there is an unexplained injury on your finger or toe, call your doctor immediately.

Before you take this drug

Methylin should be avoided if:

  • Glaucoma;
  • A personal or familial history of tics or tourette syndrome
  • Trouble swallowing is a sign of problems in the intestines or stomach.
  • Severe anxiety, tension, or agitation. (stimulant medicines can worsen these symptoms.)
  • Inability to digest sugars;
  • If you've used an mao inhibitor in the last 14 days, examples include isocarboxazid linezolid, methylene blue, phenelzine, or tranylcypromine.

Certain stimulants can cause strokes, heart attacks, or sudden deaths in some people. Inform your doctor about:

  • Heart problems or defects;
  • High blood pressure
  • Are you at risk of cardiac disease or sudden death? If yes, why?

If you have ever experienced:

  • Depression, bipolar disorder or suicidal thoughts or actions.
  • Peripheral arterial disease, such as raynaud syndrome.
  • If you have seizures or epilepsy (or an abnormal eeg), then contact your doctor.
  • Phenylketonuria;
  • Alcoholism and drug abuse
  • Aspirin and yellow food dyes (tartrazine) can cause an allergic reaction.

Methylin is known to cause harm to an unborn child. Inform your doctor immediately if you plan to get pregnant. Your name could be added to a registry if you're pregnant in order to monitor the effects of the methylphenidate drug on your baby. Your doctor can assess if breastfeeding while taking this medication is feasible for you and baby. Be sure to tell him or her if breastfeeding, breastfeeding difficulties arise, insomnia sets in or feeding issues arise for either party.

How to take Methylin?

Read all the instructions or guides that come with your medication and follow the directions. Sometimes, your doctor will change the dose. Your medication must be taken exactly as instructed. It is possible that methylin can become habit-forming. Abuse of the drug can lead to addiction, death, and overdose. Store it in a place where other people cannot reach it. It is illegal to sell or give away methylin. Changes in brand, strength or form of medicine could affect your dose requirements; only take the medication prescribed by your physician to avoid making mistakes. The majority of brands contain methylphenidate, which is usually taken between 1 and 3 times a day. Jornay PM is only to be used in the evening. This medicine should only be taken once daily. with a glass full of water. Methylin can be taken with or without a meal, as long as you take it in the same manner each time. Certain brands of methylphenidate must be taken between 30 and 45 minutes prior to a meal. Do not chew, crush, open, or break the extended-release tablet or capsule.

Open the capsule and combine it with a soft food, such as yogurt or applesauce. The mixture should be swallowed quickly without chewing; passing some pieces through in your stool won't affect its effectiveness. The chewable tablet must be chewed before it can be swallowed. For at least 10 seconds, shake the orally suspended With the measuring device supplied (not with a spoon), measure liquid medication (solution or suspension). Only when ready to take the medication should you remove the tablet with dry hands from its package. Let the tablet dissolve without chewing. Inform your doctor of any planned surgeries. You may be required to undergo medical testing to determine your heart's function. Your doctor must monitor your progress regularly. Inform any physician who treats you about your use of this medication. Counseling or other treatment options may be included in your treatment. Keep leftover medication out of sight.One dose of medication taken incorrectly or accidentally could prove fatal. Talk to your pharmacist for more information about drug return programs. In a plastic bag, you can mix leftover medication with coffee grounds or cat litter. The bag should be sealed and thrown in the garbage. Keep them tightly sealed in their original containers at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light. Store your medication in an area where it cannot be misused.

What happens if I miss the dose?

If you are almost due for the next dose, skip it. Jornay PM: skip the missed dosage and continue with your regular schedule.At one time, only take one dose at a time.

What happens if I overdose?

Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. A methylin overdose could prove fatal.

What should be avoided?

Do not drink alcohol. Methylin can affect your reactions. Avoid dangerous activities until you are sure of how they will impact you. You may be unable to react properly.

Interaction with other drug

Inform your doctor of all other medications, including:

  • A blood thinner—warfarin, Coumadin, or Jantoven
  • An antacid;
  • Antidepressants are a type of medication.
  • Seizure medication;
  • Decongestants are found in cold and allergy medicines.

Methylin can be affected by many drugs not listed here. These include prescription, over-the-counter, herbal, and other products. This list does not include all of the possible drug-drug interactions.
