What is Lybrel?

Lybrel, a combination of female hormones that prevents ovulation, can also affect your uterine lining, cervical mucus, and sperm. It is more difficult for the fertilised egg to attach to the uterus.Use Lybrel to prevent pregnancy.This Lybrel medication guide does not list all possible uses.

Warnings

Do not use Lybrel if you are pregnant or have recently given birth. Avoid taking Lybrel if there is any one of the following conditions: uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke, blood-clotting disorder, circulation problems or diabetes, eye, kidney, or liver problems, unusual vaginal bleeding, liver cancer, migraines or severe headaches, smoking, over 35, breast or uterine cancer, jaundice caused by birth control pills, or heart attacks or bloodIf you miss a dose or start Lybrel and you need to stop, you will have to use an alternative birth control method.If you forgot to take Lybrel and you are concerned about the "missed dose", carefully read the instructions.Inform your physician of all medications you are currently taking.

Before you take this drug

Lybrel may cause birth defects. If you are pregnant, use caution. Wait four weeks after delivery before taking Lybrel.

  • Hypertension, untreated or uncontrolled;
  • Heart Disease (coronary artery disease, an uncontrolled heart valve disorder and prior experience of heart attack, stroke or blood clot);
  • A blood-clotting disorder or circulation problems;
  • Diabetes may cause problems in the eyes, kidneys, and circulation.
  • History of hormone-related cancers such as breast or uterine cancer;
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding that goes undetected;
  • Liver cancer or disease
  • Severe headaches from migraines, especially in those older than 35.
  • Jaundice caused by pregnancy or birth control pills is another factor.
  • This is for smokers older than 35 years old

Inform your doctor of any medical conditions that you have so that you can safely take Lybrel.

  • Varicose veins and high blood pressure
  • High triglycerides and cholesterol or being overweight may be signs.
  • A History of Depression
  • Thyroid glands are underactive.
  • Gallbladder disease
  • Diabetes;
  • Seizures or epilepsy;
  • An irregular history;
  • Tuberculosis
  • A previous abnormal mammogram or lumps on a mammogram

The hormones in Lybrel (ethinylestradiol, levonorgestrel) can pass into breast milk and harm nursing infants. Do not use Lybrel if you are currently breastfeeding.

How to take Lybrel?

Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Please read and follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Each of the 28 pills in the pill pack contains active medication.Take the first Lybrel on the first day of your period. If you take it on the first day of your period, you do not need to use backup birth control. Follow your doctor's instructions.It is best to take only one pill a day.Bleeding may occur during the first 3 months. Tell your doctor if the bleeding continues or becomes heavy.Use birth control as a backup if you are suffering from severe diarrhoea or vomiting.Tell any doctor or surgeon who treats you that you are taking Lybrel.Lybrel requires that you visit your doctor on a regular basis.Store the Lybrel at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.Read the instructions provided with your Lybrel package. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you do not understand. Missing a pill increases your chances of becoming pregnant.

Missing one Lybrel tablet?

  • Take the missed pill before taking your next pill. Two pills can be taken per day.
  • You could get pregnant if you have sex in the first seven days after restarting your pill. For a backup method, you must use spermicide or condoms.

This can be used if you forget two Lybrel pills and then remember them the next day.

  • Take two missed pills the next day.
  • You could get pregnant if you have sex in the first seven days after restarting your pill. For a backup method, you must use spermicide or condoms.

If you forget the first tablet and remember it the next day, then you can recall the second:

  • Take two pills the next day.
  • You could get pregnant if you have sex in the first seven days after restarting your pill. For a backup method, you must use a non-hormonal birth control method (such as condoms, spermicide, or other methods).

Missing 3 or more Lybrel tablets?

  • To learn more, please contact your healthcare professional.
  • Continue taking one pill a day until you consult your doctor. Retake the missed pill.
  • You could get pregnant if you have sex in the first 7 days after restarting your pill. Use non-hormonal birth control methods as a backup (such as spermicide or condoms).

What happens if I overdose?

If you experience any of these symptoms, call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222. Other overdose symptoms are nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeds.

What should be avoided?

Smoking and Lybrel may cause strokes, heart attacks, and blood clots, especially for those over the age of 35.Lybrel is not effective against HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. You can only prevent these diseases by using a condom.

Side effects of Lybrel

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of these symptoms: difficulty breathing, swelling in your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

You may experience serious side effects, such as:

  • An abrupt feeling of weakness or numbness on one side
  • An abrupt, severe headache, confusion, or problems with speech or vision
  • Feeling of chest pain or heaviness. The pain may spread to the arm or shoulder. Nausea, sweating
  • Rapid breathing, sudden coughing, and wheezing
  • Redness, pain, swelling, or warmth on either or both legs
  • Changes in migraine headache frequency or intensity
  • Dark urine andclay-coloured stools; nausea; upper abdominal discomfort; itching; and loss of appetite.
  • Your ankles, hands, and feet may swell.
  • A breast lump, or
  • Depression can cause sleep disturbances, fatigue, and mood swings.

Less serious side effects include:

  • Mild symptoms of nausea and vomiting. This is especially true when you take the medication for the first time.
  • Breast tenderness, swelling, or discharge.
  • Hair growth or loss on the scalp.
  • Changes in weight or appetite
  • Contact Lenses: Problems with Contact Lenses
  • Vaginal discharge and itching can be problems.
  • A change in your menstrual cycles, a decrease in sexual desire

Interaction with other drug

Some drugs may reduce their effectiveness and cause pregnancy. Inform your doctor if you are taking any of these medications before using Lybrel.

  • Bosentan (Tracleer)
  • Tuberculosis or antibiotic medicine.
  • Treatment for HIV/AIDS or hepatitis C
  • Barbiturates, such as phenobarbital and Solfoton;
  • St.
  • Seizure medications.

Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, such as:

  • Dantrolene (Dantrium);
  • Tizanidine (Zanaflex);
  • Tranexamic Acid

Lybrel can interact with other drugs. Inform your physician of all medications you are currently taking. This includes prescription, over-the-counter, herbal, vitamins, and vitamin products. Do not start a new medication without consulting your physician.
