What is Lumason?

Lumason, a contrast agent used to enhance the quality of ultrasonicLumason allows certain segments of the liver, heart, or urinary system to be more clearly seen on an ultrasound examination.Lumason can be used in other ways not mentioned in this guide.

Side effects of Lumason

If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek emergency medical attention: hives; skin redness; rash; warmth; numbness or tingling sensation; difficulty breathing; tightness in your throat.

Rarely, serious or even fatal reactions can occur during or immediately after an injection. Inform your carers immediately if you experience:

  • Feeling light-headed as though they could faint.
  • Severe dizziness, or a cold sweat;
  • Chest pain, difficulty breathing;
  • Fast or slow heartbeats
  • A seizure;
  • If you experience a severe headache or blurred vision, feel a pounding i the neck or ears, or if your vision is blurred, it could be a sign of a serious headache.
  • A slow heart rate; a weak pulse; or shallow breathing.

Lumason can cause the following side effects:

  • Nausea;
  • Headache;
  • Changed sense of taste
  • Feeling hot?
  • Pain or heat where the medicine has been injected.

Warnings

Rarely, serious or even fatal reactions can occur during or immediately after an injection. Inform your carers immediately in the event that you feel short of breath or light-headed, or have chest pains, severe headaches, rapid or slow heartbeats, or pounding ears or neck.

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to Lumason, it is best not to use the product.

Notify your doctor of any of the following conditions:

  • Heart problems such as an attack or congestive failure
  • A congenital defect of the heart (especially "cardiac shunt");
  • A lung condition that has recently gotten worse

Inform your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or nursing.

How to take Lumason?

Lumason can be infused into a vein to examine the heart or liver.Lumason, a dye that can be used to examine the bladder, is injected into the bladder through a catheter placed in the urethra. (This tube allows urine to exit your bladder.)After receiving Lumason, your vital signs, such as heart rate, breathing, oxygen level, blood pressure, and other vital indicators, will be closely monitored for 30 minutes. You will be monitored for at least 30 minutes after receiving Lumason to ensure you don't have an allergic response.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Lumason has no daily dosage schedule because it is administered with ultrasound.

What happens if I overdose?

Overdoses are unlikely because this medicine is administered by a health professional in a medical environment.

What should be avoided?

If your doctor prescribes any restrictions regarding food, beverage, or activity, follow their instructions.

Interaction with other drug

Lumason may be affected by other drugs, such as prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Inform your doctor of all the medicines you are taking and those that you stop or start using.
