Lodoco

Generic Name: Colchicine
Form of dosage: tablets (0.50mg).

What is Lodoco?

In cardiovascular disease, Lodoco (colchicine) reduces the risk of stroke and heart attacks. It is also used to treat coronary artery bypass grafts, cardiac stenting, and cardiovascular deaths. Lodoco is for adult patients with a buildup of plaque in the arteries known as atherosclerotic diseases or other cardiovascular risk factors. Lodoco was the first atheroprotective anti-inflammatory cardiovascular treatment FDA-approved.Inflammation is a major factor in the development of atherosclerotic heart disease (ASCVD), a condition that occurs when the arteries narrow and become hardened as a result of the accumulation of plaque. This can lead to strokes, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular conditions. Lodoco is an anti-inflammatory that reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases by targeting the inflammatory pathways associated with major cardiac events.Colchicine is available in different brands to treat various conditions.Colcrys has FDA approval for treating and preventing acute gout attacks. It is also approved for patients aged 4 and older who have familial Mediterranean fever (FMF). Mitigare has FDA approval to prevent gout.

Warnings

Lodoco can cause serious drug interactions when used with certain medications. Inform your healthcare provider about any new or discontinued medicines and all current medications you are using.Tell your doctor before taking Lodoco if you suffer from liver, kidney, or heart disease. Also, if you have a stomach or intestinal ulcer, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, intestinal bleeding, or any other severe digestive disorder, please tell them.You may need regular blood tests if you have been taking Lodoco for a long time. Do not miss scheduled appointments.If you experience any of the following serious side effects: muscle pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in your fingers and toes; severe vomiting or diarrhoea; easy bruising, bleeding, fatigue, or feeling weak; flu symptoms; blood in your urine or less urination than normal; or no urination at all,

Before you take this drug

If you have an allergy to colchicine, then Lodoco should be avoided.

Lodoco can have unwanted or harmful effects, especially if your liver or kidneys are damaged. If you take any of these drugs, your doctor may have to alter your treatment plan.

  • Cyclosporine;
  • Nefazodone;
  • Tipranavir;
  • Clarithromycin (telithromycin) or clarithromycin
  • Itraconazole or ketoconazole; or
  • Hiv or aids medicine: atazanavir, darunavir, fosamprenavir, indinavir, lopinavir, nelfinavir, ritonavir, or saquinavir.

Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that lodoco will be safe for you:

  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • If you are taking digoxin or cholesterol-lowering medication,

Pregnancy

This medicine is not known to harm an unborn child. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Lodoco can temporarily affect male fertility. It may impact your ability to father children. If you have any concerns, speak to your physician.

Breastfeeding

Speak to your doctor if you plan to or are currently breastfeeding. Colchicine may pass into breastmilk and harm nursing babies. Speak to your healthcare provider to find out the best way to nourish your baby while on Lodoco.

How to take Lodoco?

Follow the instructions on your prescription label. Please follow all the instructions on the prescription label. Take this medication only as prescribed. Take the prescribed dose only. Do not take more or longer.Lodoco can be taken once a day, with or without food.You may need to undergo frequent medical tests if you take this medication for a long time.

What happens if I miss the dose?

Take the missed dose as soon you remember. Skip the missed dosage if your next dose is scheduled soon. Do not increase your dose to make up for the missed one.

What happens if I overdose?

Call Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 or seek emergency medical care. A colchicine overdose can be fatal.Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Other symptoms are numbness, tingling or numbness, weakness of the pulse, a slow heartbeat, shallow or weak breathing, or fainting.

What should be avoided?

Colchicine can cause unwanted side effects if grapefruit or grapefruit juice are consumed. Avoid grapefruit juice and other grapefruit products when taking colchicine.

Side effects of Lodoco

If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergy to Lodoco, seek immediate medical attention: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your lips, face, throat, or tongue.

If you have any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor right away.

  • Muscle pain or weakness
  • Numbness in the fingers or toes
  • Your lips, hands, or tongue may appear pale or grey.
  • Severe or ongoing vomiting or diarrhoea;
  • Fever, chills and body pains are all symptoms of the flu.
  • Feeling weak or tired, easy bruising, and unusual bleeding

Interaction with other drug
